~*~*~*~*~*~

Charlie has always considered him a bad luck charm. Cursed. A jinx. That was until he met a blonde who radiated good luck energy. Nick Nelson. The captain of the school's rugby team. The bloke who excelled in all his classes. The bloke who seemed to have an amazing life. Charlie always becomes fond of the memories of when he found Nick did a good life, to some degree, yet still was everyone's hope to conquer the despair.

Nick came into Charlie's life when he needed him most. Charlie was grateful that the blonde had been so protective, understanding, and supportive of him. Ben never treated him in the same manner.

After a few years of being together and were old enough, they pitched in what money they had to rent out a small apartment together. They worked constantly in order to afford the rent and take care of themselves, but they were living with one another and things were going smoothly. Sure they had a few bumps on the road, but they managed to fix it at the end of the day.

They had been living together for a year and a half now, and Charlie had started to become lonely. Sure he had Nick, but he was constantly working. The only time he really saw the blonde was on his days off and at night, hardly. While Nick had to physically go to work, Charlie was able to work from home. It had it pros, but the cons weighed it out by a landslide.

Charlie wanted to have some sort of companion while Nick was out. He would contact his friends, but they were still in college and were far away, or had their own lives and weren't available. The apartment they were living in did allow pets, but they were expensive and rent was due soon. So with nothing going on, Charlie decided to create a powerpoint as to why getting a pet was a good idea, then show it to Nick.

When Nick came home, he was surprised to find himself being dragged and tossed on the couch, with Charlie shoving his computer onto the bewildered bloke. Nick wasn't even home for an hour and he was already being thrown into a situation. Nick looked at the computer then at Charlie and then back to the computer. When be glanced up his boyfriend, the jet haired bloke signaled him to look at what was on the laptop. Not understanding anything, Nick started to look through the powerpoint. Nick took his time reading each slide carefully, slowly connecting the pieces.

Charlie intently watched the blonde go through each of his slides, noticing how quick Nick was able to piece everything together. Charlie watched the bloke take off his reading glasses —something he got a year ago— and let out a long, heavy sigh. Charlie bit the inside of his cheek as Nick looked at him.

"Charlie," Nick breathed as he moved the computer to his side, then clasped his hands together over his mouth. "Why?"

"Because, I can," Charlie leaned over to Nick, "And want to get one!"

"A cat?" Nick cocked an eyebrow.

"Yep! I've been reading the rules, and e-mailed the landlord, and they said that a cat would be alright!" Charlie explained.

"Why not a dog?" Nick huffed as he crossed his arms and legs.

"They're allergic, and because of the amount of complaints the last few years." Charlie sat next to Nick, placing a comforting hand on the blonde's shoulder. "I tried."
Nick looked at Charlie, shaking his head. "It doesn't matter. Rent is due soon."

"So?"

'So? We need to use the money we've been saving in order to keep this place, not to use on a cat." Nick summarized. "I'm sorry, petal, but we just can't right now."
