"This valley, where is it located?" Indra asked, once we got out of the stedaunon without triggering any of the traps that may remain.
I quickened my pace to get across the Trkovakru territory. "It's not far from Polis. Lexa has always called it Shallow Valley" I told her.
Bellamy matched my speed as he added, "Travel time was a few hours by rover but on foot I estimate it'll be around 12 hours."
Indra hummed. I didn't think much about it until she said, "Louwoda Kliron Kru."
The words Madi told me all those years ago rang true. With just the three of us living in the valley we weren't much of a clan. "Yes" I said.
"Shallow Valley was in Trikru territory. I have been there before. I know the area well. If it survived maybe there are other valley's that are also suitable" she said with a glimmer of hope.
"There are none others. We looked for years from the space station and Shallow Valley is currently the only surviving land" Bellamy crushed her hope.
Right now I can't bring myself to hope for anything besides my friends being okay. It still didn't feel real. Octavia, Anna and Raven were all dead. I felt numb and slightly oblivious to the hole in my chest. I cannot loose another friend. I cannot keep routing for people only to see them die. Lexa survived a bullet to the chest. Freya survived the city of light and torture. They would be fine once Bekka is gone. I had to hold onto that.
"Trikovakru is not how I imagined it would be," Indra commented as she ran her hand over a wall that has had portions chiseled out, "They were resourceful."
"There were a lot of things found in the bunker we didn't expect" Bellamy muttered. Another reminder of our friends death.
Indra made a noise of agreement. "There was a rocky start but Octavia was not always Blodreina. The dark year turned her into what you saw. I suppose she had trouble bringing her mind out of that time" she told him. It sounded like she truly cared for Octavia. When she brought her on as her second I didn't understand the bond it would form.
I released a sigh. We finally made our way across the territory to the locked door that separated Bekka's room from the rest. I punched in the code I saw Lexa use and the door unlocked. "If Bekka is still in there we have to disarm her" I said over my shoulder as I hurried down the stairs.
"Understood" Indra grumbled.
The first thing I saw after ripping the door open were two swords dropped in the middle of the room. One bloody and the other mostly clean. For just a second I thought they were gone. But life could never be that kind. "No" I gulped. It didn't take long to find them both leaned against the wall by the door.
"Lexa?" I fell to my knees next to them. My hand shook as I set it on her leg. Freya's body was wrapped in her arms. Under them was a wide circle of black blood. "Freya?" I choked out. I set my fingers on her trying to feel for a pulse, ignoring the thick layer of blood on the side of her neck. "She's -she's dead" I whispered unable to stop my eyes from watering over. A single blink was all it took for the first tear to roll down my cheek.
Somewhere behind me I heard Bellamy sigh, "shit."
Scooting forward into the blood I shook Lexa's shoulder. She was horribly pale. At first she didn't show any sign of responding and my shoulders dropped. "Klarke?"
"What happened, Lexa? We need to get you help!" I gasped.
Lexa blinked slowly and took in a strained breath. "Bekka is gone" she said, raspy and weak. Her arms moved like they were on the verge of going limp. She hugged Freya's body. "You can't take her. I promised she would not be alone" she struggled.
I bit my lip as I looked at Freya closer. There were no marks on her. Only blood trailed from her eyes, nose and ears. The flame did this to her? "But you'll die if we don't move her" I sniffled, lightly cupping my hands around Freya's lifeless one.
I flinched from the feeling of someone trying to grab me. "Clarke" Bellamy tried softly. His presence surrounded me as he knelt to pull me away. "It's too late" he added.
"NO!" I yelled, rearing back to get him off me. My shoulders slammed into his chest causing him to groan and let go. "Don't touch me" I demanded. Lexa was still alive. One of them was still alive. And she was staring at me. "I can save you" I cried.
Lexa's lips twitched as if she was attempting to smile. "I do not want to be saved, Clarke" she rasped. I grabbed her sleeve and shook my head as I forced in a deep shuddering breath. "I have never been scared of my death, Clarke. Only scared to leave her" she told me. Gradually her hand turned over and covered mine. "I am sorry I was not a better friend to you" she gulped as her body stiffened in pain.
"You are the greatest friend. That's why you can't go. You can't leave me" I sobbed. For a moment her eyes closed longer than they should have. "Lexa" I squeezed her hands.
Her eyes fluttered open again. "Promise you will aid Madi and Aden. The life of heda is not easy if you are alone" she whispered.
"You can guide them yourself" I sniffled.
This time when a hand touched my shoulder I didn't immediately recoil. Indra knelt on the other side of Lexa. "Clarke" she said. I tore my gaze away to meet Indra's. Something in them was accepting and calm even though her face held a deep set frown.
My heart sank. I swallowed the lump in my throat. Lexa's eyes weren't open as much now. "Okay, I promise" I told her.
Indra reached out to gently brush the hair out of Freya's face. Seeing the girl from the drop ship I got so close to made me cry more. I squeezed both their hands tighter. "I will make sure you both are on the same pyre" she vowed. Lexa's hand slid off Freya's body and picked something up to set in Indra's hand. "Yu gonplei set odon, heda" Indra said mournfully as she held her hand.
A sob raked through my body as Lexa's hand went still and the fight to keep her eyes open ended. I watched Indra take Lexa's hand and lay it on Freya.
"Lexa!" I yelled as Indra wrapped her arms around me and picked me up. Bellamy tried to help but I ignored him. As their hands slipped out of mine I thrashed in her hold. "No no I can't loose anyone else, I have to save her! I can save her!"
