Andi
My aunt never moved from where Lexa left her. Or I guess Bekka has not. She looks like she's sleeping. I sat across from the bed with my aunts sword resting across my lap. Uncle A came back with a girl a few years older than me. Madi, I've heard her name mentioned more than once. But then he left again.
"This is taking forever" Madi mumbled.
It was but we cannot do anything about it. "My uncle will be back" I said.
Madi crossed her arms while leaning against the wall. "So do you like it down here?" She asked.
"Down here? I've never known anywhere else" I told her without taking my focus off Bekka.
"She never told you about what was out there?" She asked and uncrossed her arms.
I didn't have to look to know she was referring to Freya. "Of course she did" I huffed. All Freya talked about was 'the ground' and everything it had to offer. The amount of times I've heard about the first time she saw earth was uncountable. "My family told me about trees and animals in perfect detail I just haven't seen them" I added.
"Right" Madi sighed. I thought that was the end of it. That is until she added, "you are really pale."
Rolling my eyes and turning to her I asked, "do you see the sun down here?"
"Do you have a radio?"
Again I sighed, "are you always this talkative?"
Madi shrugged but kept a sly smile. "Sometimes. So, do you?"
A little irritated that she wouldn't let us sit quietly I turned to look at Bekka. I thought for a minute. "I think I remember seeing one in my aunts room a long time ago. It was broken though" I said.
"Oh"
"Why"
She pushed off the wall and paced to the opposite side of the room. "Lexa had the other one. She talked on it everyday. There was no answer" she said.
I released a deep breath slowly. Way to dampen the mood. My whole life I watched my aunt in pain. "What was she like?" I asked.
Madi tilted her head to think on it. "She was away a lot. I spent most of my time with Clarke. When the explosion happened I was younger but before that I remember hearing about the strength of our commander. She could control people with a single look, she was fair and an amazing warrior. Loosing Freya and her people was worse than death for her" she continued on for awhile. Then she looked at my aunts body on the small bed. "I cannot wait to see them back together. And with everyone in the valley things will almost be like they were" she ended.
"It's a shame that won't happen."
"Huh?" I sprang to my feet in surprise. The sword stretched out ahead of me. "Stay right there" I ordered Bekka. Yet she dropped her legs over the edge and readied herself to stand. "I mean it. Don't move!" I shouted. My grip tightened on the sword. I thought of my training briefly.
"We both know you aren't your aunt, Alexandria" she said standing up. Even daring to take a step forward. She let out a chuckle, "you're not capable."
With a quick dash forward I swiped her feet out from under her with the blunt end of the sword. Then I pointed the blade to hold her chin up. "You'd have known better if you bothered to pay any attention to me." My voice came out surprisingly even. Madi set her hand on my shoulder. Because of it I took the sword away and stepped back.
"Now do as she says and do not move from the bed" Madi told her.
"Alright alright" Bekka gave in. She used the bed to pull herself up. "I'll just sit right-" she cut herself off by lunging toward me.
