Anjelo's tears had now been reduced to sniffles accompanied by small rubs of the nose. "You alright?" Y/N mutters softly to the man next to her. He nods in response. "I'm good. Won't be able to breathe with my nose, but it's alright. I've got a mouth for a reason." Anjelo chuckles. The girls laugh alongside him as they all look at the surroundings before them. "I have a question, though, Ayden." She hums in response, standing as she does so. "You said that you were with someone." "My brother." Ayden confirms. "How'd you get separated from him?" "How do you think? Walkers, bad people, or crowded areas. We were running from people and came across a swarm that ended up separating us as we were running for cover." Anjelo nods and scratches his cheek, "Sorry, but I'll help you find him again." Ayden smiles gratefully at him before scooting towards a medium-sized rock and perching herself on it. "How old are you two?" Anjelo wonders amongst the silence that's enveloped the threesome.
"18." Ayden mutters. "21." Y/N responds with a raise of her hand, "You?" "22." The older girl blows out a sigh. "Son of a bitch. We were all young when this started, weren't we? Good God.." Ayden and Anjelo hum their responses, but go silent again shortly after. Anjelo begins to widdle more sticks, occasionally watching the other two. "Y/N, do you have any more water? I'm thirsty." Y/N nods in the direction of her bag, "Drink sparingly. I think there's only one bottle left. We're gonna have to snag more food and water from somewhere soon, or we'll be up shit creek without a paddle." The male pauses and looks at her with a bewildered expression on his face. "Up shit creek without a paddle?" Y/N raises a brow with wide eyes. "Yeah? What about it?" "Are we positive that you're seriously 21 years old?" Y/N retorts by throwing a handful of dirt at him, then laughing as he aggressively wipes his tongue on his arm to get rid of the dirt that entered his mouth.
"What's this?" Ayden questions as she holds up the small sloth in the air. Y/N's hands snatch the plush away from her just as fast as she held it up. "Don't touch this ever again. Either of you." she says while her brown eyes shift between the two in anger. "I-I'm sorry.. I just wanted to know what it was.." Ayden whispers, her grip on the water bottle causing it to crinkle under the pressure. Anjelo waves Ayden's apology off and faces Y/N. "Y'know she didn't know that it would provoke such a reaction, and she apologized, so calm your tits, cowgirl." Y/N's eyes narrow at Anjelo, who remains unphased by the small outburst, "Plus, you could always tell us the meaning behind the stuffed animal that way we know not to touch it again. I mean, fuck, we could probably help protect it since it obviously holds sentimental value to you." The older girl sinks into herself with the sloth placed in the center of her lap. She strokes its small ears as a sigh passes through her lips.
"It's a memory thing for my parents. My mom loved sloths and my dad loved her. He died protecting her and she died from heartbreak and a scratch to the chest. This is all I have left of them.. Found it in a store a while back." Y/N says, holding the plush tighter in her hands. Silently, Anjelo walks over and swipes the back of his hand against her cheek. She looks up at him and he offers her a sympathetic smile before going back to his spot. "Now we know and we won't touch it again. Don't you have something to say to the baby of our group?" The woman sheepishly looks at Ayden, whose sitting on the rock and stroking her shin lightly. "I'm sorry. It was just personal to me." Ayden's hand waves dismissively as a light grin makes its way to her face. "It's okay. I get it, Y/N. No harm done." The dual-haired female smiles thankfully at her and returns the sloth to its resting place after a small stroke against its head with her thumb.
"Let's vouch to not argue anymore unless it's needed. We gotta stay on our toes since we're in the apocalypse. Speaking of, are we ready to move?" Anjelo's voice rings out. The girls nod and raise to their feet, stumbling a tad since they had been sitting a little while. The trio move on after gathering their berings together, grabbing their makeshift spears tightly in their grips. "And onward, we go, lady and gentlemen! First thing we gotta do is find more food and water. A net might be useful if we come across a pond that has some fish in it." "Do you think that dead animals could come back like humans did?" Anjelo shrugs with a look of confusion lacing his features. "I mean, I guess they could? Why do you ask?" Ayden says nothing as she points straight ahead. The other two let their eyes follow her finger and let their mouths drop open at the sight. A deer, but not just any deer. An animated deer with a chunk taken out of its stomach and its entrails hanging from the wound.
"Holy fuck.." Y/N whispers, dazed and horrified. "Who knew animals would be coming back too.." Anjelo speaks, the sound of his voice breaking as he tries not to startle the undead creature the closer they get. The deer's grey-hued eyes constantly shift, and its blinks are slow. "Poor thing." Ayden remarks as she grips Anjelo and Y/N's hands in hers tightly. They sneak past it, the animated animal leaning down to poke at the slowly decaying grass with its tongue. "If everything is able to come back, I would hate to know what else can make an appearance.."
