So far, so good. The girls had managed to find an alley behind a clothing store to hide in while they planned their next move. "How's your leg?" "Suffering. Feels kinda hot." Ayden responds while gently patting her shin. Y/N pulls her bag to the front and places it in her lap, shuffling its contents around for a few minutes. "Here. Take this. It should help to get the fever down." she claims, handing Ayden two small tablets and a half full bottle of water. Ayden looks at it suspiciously. "It's Tylenol. Like you said back at the cannibal house, if I was going to kill you, I'd do it a different way." "Right." the blonde nods as she fills her mouth with water, pops the two pills in, and swallows. "So, what's the next step in our plan?" Ayden mumbles after she coughs slightly. Y/N's head turns from side to side, checking the only two exits they currently had. Sadly, not many of the buildings that were in this town had ladders that led to the roof on the side of the building.
Only a select few did, and this was not one of them. "The end goal is to reunite you with your brother and survive this whole nightmare. But we'll deal with that later. For now, we get more supplies, find shelter and weapons, try not to die, and food. Oh and we need to find you some clothes and a bag of some sort!" "I used to have one. Couldn't tell you where it is now, though." Y/N shrugs her shoulders, then waves her hand in the air, "Don't worry about it. We'll find you one somewhere. We also need to look for a watch or something to tell the time at least." Ayden nods confidently. "Ready?" Y/N questions standing up and glancing at the woman before her. "No, but we've already stayed in one spot for too long. Let's roll." The girls go to the right side of the alley and scan the area, only to find that there was two massive swarms littering the scene before them. "What are we gonna do?!" Ayden whispers, "We can't get through that!"
The dark-haired woman chews on her lip for a split second before running to the other side of the alley. Ayden's blue eyes widen as fear starts to lace her features. On the other side of the alley, Y/N unsheathes her knife from her boot and stabs a nearby zombie in the head, then drags the dead corpse back to where Ayden was. She looks at her with disgust and a raised brow. "What the hell are you doing?" "We have to get through that swarm, don't we?" Ayden nods as she glances over at the swarm that seems to have multiplied into a big dark mass. "Well, this is our answer." Y/N states while she carves the zombie's chest cavity open, realeasing a putrid odor that causes both of the girls to reel back from the smell. "God, that's foul!" Y/N hums in response. "So, how is this our answer?" "Have you ever come in contact with a swarm before?" Again, Ayden shakes her head. "No. I've only come close to it once or twice, but my brother and I were far enough away that we could avoid it."
Y/N looks at the girl dumbfounded. "You've never had to worm your way through something like this?!" she wonders as she juts her knife in the direction of the zombies. "No." "Well, you are today!" Y/N sarcastically remarks as her knife chops away at the corpse's insides. "You and I get to put this, oh, so lovely, mush onto our clothes and hope to God that we can blend in enough to get through them." the dark-haired woman sarcastically says. The blonde almost turns green from the thought at smelling like one of the undead. "Please, no.." Ayden whines quietly. "Trust me, I'd rather not do it either, but if we want to survive, then we have to do whatever it takes." Ayden lets go of a deep sigh and accepts her fate before leaning forward and grabbing a pile of mush in her hands. "Do it quickly. The longer you think about it, the more you'll hesitate." the other girl reminds. Hands fling and smear the contents onto each others clothes and skin, taking turns on doing the others back.
After that, they put a little bit on the bag and sigh. "How many times have you done this?" Ayden questions Y/N. She shakes her head while flinging the remaining remnents off of her hands, it splatters on the concrete with a sickening noise. "I don't know. Probably too many times to keep track." Y/N loads her bag onto her back and tilts her head to the side before bringing it upright again. "Ready?" the dark-haired woman wonders as she walks next to the currently injured woman. "Let's go." Ayden says with a look of determination. "Stay close to me. I'll defend if I need to." "Yes, ma'am." The duo head off into the ever darkening black mass in front of them. So far, they had no issues getting past the beginning, but now the hardest thing they will have to face is the dense middle of the swarm. Ayden grips onto Y/N's hand the minute a zombie comes too close for comfort, squeezing out of fear. "You're okay. I've got you." Y/N mumbles.
Ayden says nothing in response but grips her hand tighter if that was even humanly possible. Seconds feel like minutes and minutes feel like hours. "Almost there, few more steps." Y/N whispers and flexes her fingers, only to feel emptiness surrounding them. Brown eyes look around in alarm as they scan the area frantically. They finally land on Ayden's figure, who was closer to where Y/N was than she was expecting. A hand makes a circle in a hurried motion to another person before they hear a faint whistle that makes them freeze in their spots.
