"So, tell us about yourself since you're gonna be stuck with us for a while." Ayden huffs as she stands on Y/N's back to grab some sticks out of a tree. Anjelo helps her down, only for the human footstool to make her sit down and lift her pant leg. "What do you want to know?" "Have you always been by yourself? Since the start?" Y/N mutters while changing the bandage on Ayden's shin, muttering a soft 'sorry' when she flinches. Angelo pulls his lip between his teeth as he messes with a small rock that litters the ground. "I mean, didn't everybody end up alone from the beginning?" Ayden and Y/N look over at him and wait for him to elaborate. "I used to have someone with me, my partner, Joel. We did everything together and I mean everything. We were basically attached at the hip." Anjelo sits down on a nearby stump and grabs one of the sticks along with a knife they found on the way. "We were childhood friends. Everyone that knew us would call us the "AJ Troublemakers".
Anjelo smiles half-heartedly as he begins to widdle the stick to a point, "I wasn't the troublemaker though, he was. I was the sidekick." Y/N and Ayden giggle amongst themselves as the man continues to speak. "We eventually dated and he was my first everything. First kiss, first boyfriend, first experience with sex." The girls cheer, causing a red hue to appear on the olive-toned male's face as he waves them off. "What was a pet peeve that you had with him?" Y/N wonders as she leans against Ayden's good leg, fully engaged in the conversation. "That's tough. He was, as people used to say, "wrote by a woman" or whatever the phrase was." The blonde grins at him and ruffles her hair. "There's gotta be something that he did that ticked you off. Even if he was "wrote by a woman," he would still have some faults." Anjelo blows the shavings off the stick as he thinks, bringing it up to eye level before going to sharpen it again. "I don't remember, but you're right, little one."
Ayden smiles at the nickname. "What did you love about him? No dirty answers, either. We have a child present." Y/N jokes, which earns a swat on the arm from Ayden. "I'm 18!" "Exactly! Child!" Anjelo laughs, "No, I'm kidding. As for what I loved about him? It was probably the way he was a good listener. It was like he hung on every word that came out of my mouth and he was also really good at giving advice. Anything you were seeking help with, he was your guy." The girls giggle together and then smile to themselves before one of them speaks up. "How'd ya'll meet?" Angelo's hands instantly stop and he can feel his throat dry up. His eyes focus on the dirt beneath his feet as he swallows. "It was actually quite sad, honestly." Anjelo can feel his eyes slowly begin to water, "I used to be a nurse before the world went to shit. I worked in the trauma center, and I also worked in the terminal ward occasionally." He closes his eyes briefly to stop the tears from falling.
Y/N's eyes soften as she reaches over and gently squeezes his hand, offering a small amount of comfort to the man. "H-he was one of the terminal patients that I would take care of when I would work in there. He was always sweet and had the biggest smile on his face whenever he would see me. "Here comes my beautiful and amazingly stunning nurse," he would always say." By this point, Anjelo had tears streaming down the sides of his face. Y/N squeezes his hand again, "You don't have to continue if it's too much for you." He waves her off with his free hand as he releases a shuddering breath. "I'm okay. It's just a lot since this is the first time I've ever spoken about him to other people. But long story short, I met him as a patient, and he had a few months left. His last wish was to be in a relationship where he felt truly loved." "Did his previous one not go so well?" Ayden wonders while she inches closer and puts her head on Anjelo's knee.
He nods at the girl, "He started to sleep around after he told his partner that he had a brain tumor that was far too gone to be removed." Ayden had locked her fingers with Anjelo's other hand and kissed the back of it in apology. "You definitely don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but.." the girl who speaks hesitates, "How'd he go?" Anjelo bites his lip harshly, almost drawing blood, then speaks again. "I killed him. Twice. He didn't want to be my handicap once the world went to shit, so he asked me to help him go. I didn't have the heart to tell him no, no matter how badly I wanted him to stay by my side until he went out on his own." His sobs wreck his body with a strong force. "I crushed up some pills and mixed it with his juice that he drank daily and helped put him to bed. I laid with him that night and kissed his head for the final time. He went peacefully." He turns his head and wiped his stained cheeks with his shoulders.
"I woke up the next morning to this animated corpse thrashing around in the bed. After I ended him with a knife to the head, I sat in the room and cried until there weren't any tears to cry anymore. I had to hurt my baby, who wasn't even my baby anymore.." The girls wrap their arms around his frame tightly and hold him until the crying stops. "We're sorry and we got you. We're here for you, Anjelo."
