Glimmers of sunlight shone throughout the house, the air inside held a pleasant humidity and the breeze was soft against the trees outside. Spring was at its peak, creating picturesque calm. It was perfect.
Well it would have been perfect if Donghyuck actually bothered to wake up.
His mother sighed as she sipped at her coffee — having been sat at the table for a good 10 minutes patiently waiting for her son to come down and have breakfast. Of course, he was still asleep. It's Donghyuck after all.
She'd given up on calling him a long time ago, realising that the boy only awoke at his own command. He'd always been troublesome, she still loved him however. Everyone did.
Donghyuck was the sunshine of the neighborhood, but he was also a little devil and everyone knew when his trademark mischievous smile graced his lips, someone was in trouble.
He was charming nonetheless and maybe that's why he was able to get away with everything he did; it wasn't like he was very secretive about his bad behavior. Donghyuck wasn't one of those kids who act one way in front of the grown-ups and another way in front of everyone else, no. In fact, he hated those types of people, believing that you should just be honest about who you are — whether or not you're a good or a bad person.
He was not a nice person, if you hadn't guessed already. He wasn't ashamed either and maybe that was the worst thing, but no one could ever change him apart from himself. That much was clear.
So the boy's mother just put up with his tiring antics, answering all the phone calls home from school and attending all the meetings. She was at a point in her life where she'd just let him be. She didn't ever stop caring for him nor was she fed up, she'd just stopped nagging at him like she used to. She supposed that she could just let the boy live his life and be a supportive parent, after all, there was no point in taking away his freedom. His mother was certain that he'd learn eventually and that constantly reprimanding him would make things worse.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door and Mrs. Lee stood to open it.
She greeted the two in front of her, "Donghyuck is still asleep boys, you'll have to wake him yourself if you want to take him to school," she chuckled.
Jaemin had already stepped inside complaining about how, 'having to wake Hyuck up every morning is tiring,' but made his way upstairs regardless.
Jeno was still sat at the doorstep untying his laces. He looked back at Mrs. Lee once he was done and gave her small smile before standing and walking inside as well.
"He always complains about it, yet I'm always the one that has to wake both of them up in the mornings," he muttered under his breath as he marched up the steps.
Mrs. Lee heard him and laughed to which he replied with, "I'm not joking Mrs. Lee, Jaemin's probably up there sleeping with him! Tiring my ass."
Donghyuck's mother gave him a sympathetic pat on the back and he let out an exasperated sigh, walking the rest of the way up.
He stomped into Donghyuck's room and almost turned soft at the sight in front of him. Almost.
Donghyuck was laying on his side, snuggled up in his huge white duvet. Tufts of his bright orange hair stuck out as sunlight streamed in through his curtains. His face seemed relaxed for once, no frustration or fatigue present on his sun-kissed skin. Dare he say - Donghyuck looked at peace.
Sadly, no matter how angelic he looked in his sleep, they still had to go to school.
And so Jeno proceeded to pounce on the poor unsuspecting boy and shake him until he woke up. It caused Donghyuck to groan involuntarily at the disturbance, but otherwise he was still sleeping like a baby.
"HYUCK WAKE UP YOU PIECE OF SHIT, WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"
Another groan.
"LEE DONGHYUCK I SWEAR TO GOD I'LL MURDER YOU WITHIN THE NEXT FIVE MINUTES IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR ASS UP!"
Said boy only furrowed his brows, eyes still closed as he swatted at Jeno's face blindly, muttering a 'geez, I'm getting up you bastard, now fuck off,' to which Jeno responded to with an ungracious huff as he did as instructed.
Donghyuck sat up a while after, rubbing at his eyes as he groggily got up and stumbled towards the bathroom, preparing to get ready for the long day ahead.
Jeno shook his head, sighing for the hundredth time today, "and where the hell did that idiot Jaemin go?"
"heY, I'm not an idiot!"
The blonde whipped his head round, surely only to find a grinning Jaemin perched on the desk, munching away at a bag of crisps contentedly. He wondered why he hadn't noticed him before, not really surprised that he never helped because let's face it, Jaemin never helps.
"Jaem, jokes aside, you're like the biggest idiot out there," the elder said before smacking the boy upside the head and exiting the room.
Jaemin followed suit, not without whining about how much it hurt of course.
