"Today is the day." Damon said out loud to himself while looking in the mirror. "January 10th." he glared at himself. He had grown a noticeable beard in the prior month. Not too much facial hair that it was bushy, but enough for anyone to know it was there. His hair was so long it was in a bun now. He had a certain coldness in his eyes now. A kind of look that would make you feel uneasy. He calmly walked out into his kitchen. His apartment was noticeably different from the beginning of the semester when he moved in. All of his pictures were off his walls, his apartment was spotless, and it only had the essentials.

Damon walked out to his kitchen table and looked at his report card from college. He failed almost every class and the classes he did pass he passed with a D. He scoffed "What a joke." in a monotone voice. He turned around and walked to his room. He got to his knees and reached under his bed. He pulled out a box and set it on his bed. He slowly opened the box to reveal an outfit. A white T-shirt with a big monitor logo on the chest in red. white cargo pants with red outlining the pockets, and red combat boots. Damon changed into them.

"This is what you've been training for." he said to himself. He grabbed his jacket and looked around his apartment with a cold stare. Thinking about all the memories he had in this place. The day he moved in, hanging out with Anna, hanging out with Orion, the laughs, the smiles, the anger, the hate, the betrayal, the night he got out of jail, the fight with Orion, his mother revealing the truth to him. "I won't be back here for four months." he thought to himself. Taking one last look, he flipped the light switch off and walked out the door. Walking down the stairs Damon put his hood up. He felt numb, numb to anything and everything. His life became empty the moment Anna and Orion walked out of his life. It was his choice not to talk to his mother after revealing the truth, but that was his choice.

He walked down the stairs and opened the door to the complex. Milena was in the parking lot in her SUV. She rolled down the window and said, "C'mon we've got a big day." with a smile. Damon walked over to the SUV and opened the door. He stepped inside and closed the door. Milena put the SUV in gear and drove off. "You ready?" she said. "Just drive." Damon said in a monotone voice. "I don't know how many times I have to say I'm sorry for what happened with Anna." Milena said. Damon put his hand up. Milena looked over to Damon and shivered at his cold demeanor. Milena hadn't seen this side of Damon before, and neither had Damon. The January weather was ice cold. The temperature from the thermostat in the car read "-22". As they arrived to the abandoned factory, Milena parked the car. "Damon, if you want to ta-" said Milena as Damon interrupted her by opening the door. He stepped out and walked to the Monitor facility. Milena followed.

They both stepped into the elevator and went to the bottommost floor. The elevator bell dinged and the doors opened. Damon stepped out to see other people dressed in the same recruit outfit he was in. Milena walked off. Damon felt a pat on his back "Hey kid, today's the day. Are you ready"? Damon turned around to see Lucas standing there. "Remember, this is what you trained for. You have the tools needed to be properly marked. Go out there and become one of us." said Lucas. Damon didn't say a word. He looked straight forward and walked to the rest of the recruits. The recruits were all chatting. "I'm so excited!" he heard a voice.

"We deserve this, we are going to be amazing Monitors!" he heard another. Damon walked past them all up to the front of the room. The room was ginormous. Enough to fit the almost fifty recruits there. There was a stage in the front of the room. Above the floor, built into the walls were windows. Damon could see other Monitors observing what was happening. Damon stood still with a straight face. "Attention recruits!" came a voice from behind the stage. A Latino man stepped onto the stage in a black and red Monitor outfit. "My name is Drill Seargent Reyes! I am going to be in charge of you lackeys! The next four months are going to be hell, but at the end of it you will become full-blown Monitors. Some of you will not make it! Some of you will cry! And some of you will die! That is how intense this training is." The whole room stood silent as he spoke. "If anyone wishes to leave now is your chance." Reyes said. Three people shuddered and walked towards the elevator. Damon scoffed and shook his head.
