Damon walked onto the park grounds. He was not looking forward to this. Silas hated him. How could he not hate him. He did all the bad things that Silas thought he did. In the distance under a bridge he could see Silas and Callista talking. Damon slowly approached them. As he walked towards them he felt nervous. They were after all in a public place. Would Silas freak out and want to fight him? Damon casually walked up to the two. As soon as Silas noticed Damon he rolled his eyes and looked to Callista. "You invited this son of a bitch?" Silas said. "Look man, I get it, you don't like me. I don't like me either most of the time. But whether we like it or not, we are going to have to learn how to work as a team. I know there is nothing I can ever say to make you forgive me. I know I fucked up that day. But it was out of my control. I-" Damon said as Silas cut him off with a swift left hook that connected directly with Damon's jaw. Damon fell backwards. "How dare you. My older brother was one of the people you murdered that day. I won't let you stand there and disrespect him for not taking responsibility for your actions!" he yelled at Damon who now had a streak of blood dripping down his chin.
People were starting to notice now what was going on. Some of them walked away frantically. Others took out their phones. Damon stood there, looking Silas dead in the eye. He was right. Even though it was his darker half that took over him. Damon was still responsible for that day. Silas, now with tears in his eyes threw another punch. Damon didn't defend himself. He felt like he deserved it. It connected and Damon fell backwards again. Silas grabbed him by the shirt collar and shoved him into one of the supports that held up the bridge they were under. He picked him up off his feet. "Do what you gotta do." Damon said while looking down at Silas.
"There is nothing I can do to make up for that day. Silas, tears streaming down his face put one hand on Damon's chest. There was a crackle of yellow electricity. Damon knew what was coming. He had been on the receiving end of an impetum too many times now not to know what it looked like. Damon closed his eyes. "No!" Callista cried out as she lunged forward to Damon. He shoved her away. With milliseconds before the explosion erupted out of Silas's mark a hand came out of nowhere and grabbed Silas's. It yanked him away from Damon. Releasing him, Damon fell to the ground. The explosion erupted in the air and the people around screamed and ran away. When Silas looked at who had his hand he was shocked. It was Lucas, with an angry expression. "You three! With me! Now!" Lucas yelled as he took off in a sprint. The three followed behind him. They jumped and climbed into a building that was five stories high. They kept running and jumping from building to building until they were several blocks from the blast site.
"What the hell were you thinking?!" Lucas yelled at Damon. "I was doing what you asked Mentor." Damon replied. Lucas scowled and looked at Silas. "And you! Are you stupid? Why the hell would you use that ability in broad daylight like that?" Lucas yelled. Silas looked at the ground like a scourned child. "We received this ability to be protectors. Our job is to protect. Not to kill!" Lucas yelled. "Look at me !" Lucas yelled at Silas who obeyed. "I was there that day too in case you forgot. I was fighting right along side your brother when he died.
We both knew what we signed up for. In fact, he was a great friend of mine. But do you think he would want you treating Damon like this? He is our best chance to permanently take down the precursors. He's sorry for what he did as I'm sure he's told you. But your brother wouldn't want you to act like this." Lucas yelled. Silas took a deep breath. "You're right." he said as he stood up. Silas walked over to Damon. "Let's be clear, I don't forgive you and I never will. But my brother wouldn't want me jeopardizing missions with selfishness. So, I'll put this aside for now." Silas said as he extended his hand. Damon looked at it, and shook it.
They both locked eyes. It was an intense stare. "Good, now gett the hell out of here. Don't forget. Two days from now meet me at the facility." Lucas said as he jumped off the building. Silas turned the other direction and ran. Leaping to the next building, and the next. Callista looked at Damon. "All things considered I think that went pretty well." she said. Damon and Callista both burst into laughter. They each went their separate ways. Damon went back to his apartment. It was a long run. But he moved fast enough, and discreet enough to not have people questioning his abilities.
