Damon sat up in his bed crying. His alarm was going off. He rolled over and pressed snooze. He rolled onto his back and looked at the ceiling. He exhaled and sat up. He looked back at his alarm clock 8:12 a.m . He blinked a couple times, then yelled "Fuck"! He threw the covers off and jumped out of bed. Realizing Anna wasn't there he noticed a note sticking out from his alarm clock. It was from Anna, it read "Hey you, you looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake you. I made coffee. You have a big day today. Don't be late, it's important to make a good impression with your professors on the first day of class. Let's get lunch together after your second class. I love you!" with hearts over the last word.
"Shit!" Damon yelled. He dropped the note on the bedside table and grabbed the pants out of his drawer. Hopping on one foot while putting his pants on he looked and his class schedule on the counter which read 8:00AM-9:20AM– Biology. Damon didn't look at the rest. All he knew was that he was late. He threw a shirt on, slipped on his shoes, grabbed his backpack and ran out the door. Jumping down the stairs he tore out of the apartment building. As he opened the door, he ran into two people who were coming in. One person fell backward off the stairs. "I am so sorry!" Damon shouted as he kept running.
He ran to his motorcycle. He reached for his helmet which he left on the handlebar the night prior and noticed it was missing. "Son of a bitch!" he said out loud as he fired up the engine. Revving it, he kicked it into first gear and peeled out of the parking lot. Campus was 4 blocks away. He blew past the stop sign and zoomed down the road. Splitting lanes and weaving in and out of care until he hit a red light "Cmon!" Damon yelled. There was a slight moment where all the lights were red before the other people received the green light. Damon slammed on the gas and zoomed through the red light. He could see campus. He pulled around and into the campus parking lot. He peered out through the sea of cars for a parking spot.
"Watch out!" he heard as his head snapped onto the woman who was right in front of him. Damon slammed on the breaks and flew off the bike. He landed on his wrist and immediately felt excruciating pain. Damon stood up "Oh my god are you okay?" he heard "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm fine just move!" he yelled as he picked up his bike and wheeled it to the parking spot. He put the kickstand down and ran up the stairs to campus. He burst through the doors of the wing and ran into someone who spilled their coffee all over Damon's shirt. "Hot!" He yelled, taking his shirt off. He rung out his shirt on the ground.
Coffee dripped from it and he heard people laughing behind him and a whistle from a girl who was upstairs. Damon put his coffee-soaked shirt back on and ran down the hallway. Running into people the whole time Damon said, "Excuse me!" several times. He finally arrived at class. He looked at the clock outside the room 8:37a.m. it read. Damon sighed and opened the door. He walked in nervously. The professor was writing on the chalkboard. The whole class looked in his direction. The professor turned around and saw Damon. "Well, hello young man." said the professor "You must be Damon. You know how I know that"? Damon shook his head no. The professor replied, "I know that because you were the only person absent".
Damon stood there in silence. The professor sighed "No problem. Just take a syllabus and find a seat". Damon walked up to the table in front of the professor and grabbed a syllabus. He walked up the rows of the lecture hall looking for an open seat. He spotted an open seat in the fifth row. He took his backpack off so he could walk to the seat and one of the other students set their backpack in the seat and glared at Damon. "Well alright then. You're a pleasant bunch." he thought as he stepped back and walked up the rows. There were a few seats open way in the back on the eighth row.
Damon walked up to the seat and sat down wincing. He looked at his wrist. "It's not broken he thought. Probably just sprained real good." he thought. He rummaged through his backpack and pulled out his notebook. He continued digging through his backpack for a pencil. Damon could not find one. He leaned forward and poked the student in front of him, 'Hey do you have an extra pencil?" he asked. THe student completely ignored him. Damon turned to his left. There was a girl sitting two seats from him. He moved two seats over and said, "Excuse me, do you have an extra pencil I can borrow". The girl ignored him "I fucking hate college." he said out loud softly.
