'Last night an inexplicable incident occurred at one of the largest clubs in the city. When the authorities arrived at the scene there were no survivors to be found. Hundreds lost their lives due to the cold-blooded massacre that occurred, the police are still struggling to identify the bodies. More updates will be provided soon', The lady presenter surrounded by the bright blue background smiled sadly before her image faded.

The usual advertisements began to broadcast.

A waiter placed the order of luwak coffee and a breakfast bagel on Zuri's table at her booth in the far corner of the room. She began scarfing it down without hesitation.

Her eyes were glued to the revolving door that led to the restaurant she was in.

'This massacre is all because of those disgusting Mine rats I tell you', The other patrons of the establishment began debating.

'Everyone knew that club sold drugs, it was probably the government', another voice countered.

'They were being punished by God for all the filthy crimes they commit, serves them right', An old man with greying hair added.

Zuri had gotten an anonymous text message that threatened her to meet them at the restaurant or they would expose that she was the only survivor. That would garner the wrong attention. She was already on thin ice with her father who was on the verge of cutting her off. So she rushed out of her apartment early in the morning.

The chime rang as the figure of a woman walked in. She was dressed in a white lab coat even in the sweltering heat of the sun. A mask covered her face but she wore round-rimmed glasses around her eyes.

'There no way it's her'

In her mind, the person blackmailing her would be someone from the Mines. So she was looking around for anyone who was dressed in poorly designed clothes and a tacky hair color.

She was proved wrong when the woman sat in the booth next to her with her back turned to her.

She had discreetly slid photographs of her fleeing from the club the previous night.

'Miss Zuri tell me what you saw in the club', her voice demanded.

'My boyfriend's arm got ripped off and people were running around and screaming-',

The stranger interrupted her with an annoyed sign.

'I was specifically asking about the monsters you saw', she elaborated with an annoyed edge to her tone.

'Oh the one I saw had white eyes and was strong', she explained.

The face of whatever she saw haunted her in her nightmares. She dreamt that she had been trapped in the club and a bunch of them ripped her apart like they did to her friends.

'It was a pleasure talking to you', the stranger said.

She stood up and began to exit the restaurant.

Zuri watched her leave in relief. Before the world around her began to swirl around her.

She eyes the empty dishes on the brown table suspiciously. She had taken ambrosia enough times to know that it was the cause of her dizziness.

The scent of the other patrons bombarded her senses.

The first thing to go was her eyesight. Her world had suddenly gone dark. She reached out to the utensils which clanked when she touched them.

'HELP ME!!', she screamed in terror.

The last thing to go was her heart. The virus was now in control of her body. It only had one goal.

'Kill them all,' her voice was chanting in her mind.

It could sense the people who unknowingly approached the girl's body, asking how they could help her.

They should have been more worried about helping themselves.

Professor Sullivan smiled as she watched from the outside before she instructed her driver to take her back to her house.

'I wasted almost thirty years raising the mutants when I should have just released a virus that can kill in seconds', she said to no one in particular.

Her body shook with maniacal laughter.

The buzzing of her phone interrupted her victorious moment. She rolled her eyes when she saw the caller ID.

'What is the meaning of this Sullivan, you promised that you would only infect the people in the Mines', The President's voice was loud.

'Don't worry, I have the situation handled Mr President'.

She reassures the man.

'I suggest that you quarantine off the Mines and the places where the creatures appear as soon as possible and let me handle the rest', she spoke in a calm voice.
