Zero only has one goal, to be human. Escaping from the cell that once contained her, the outside world, which she longed to see for so long, is filled with more darkness than she expected.
She is faced with a world that is determined to label her a...
Zero sat on the opposite end of the room as the gang all stood huddled in a corner of the living room. They had to come to a unanimous decision about whether or not she would stay. It wasn't like she couldn't hear them. Her hearing was so good she could even hear the heartbeats of the morning birds that chirped in the forest.
She could understand the fear of being in proximity to someone stronger than you. All the other mutants had been stronger than her. They never missed a chance to use her as a punching bag just because they could.
The looks in their eyes had all changed after she had revealed who she was. It seemed that it was her fate to be hated by humans.
'What do you guys suggest we do?' Namjoon took the lead in the conversation.
'I saw her die with my own eyes and now she's sitting on the couch like nothing happened!', he wiped the beads of sweat from his brow.,' I think she should leave,' Jungkook's voice revealed.
A deafening silence was his only response.
'Well I think we should hear her side of the story before we make a decision', Nanna said in a firm voice.
That seemed to be the only thing they could agree on.
They all approached her cautiously, with their senses on high alert. She could tell that their breathing patterns had drastically changed from calm to erratic.
'I was already aware of Zero's...situation', Namjoon revealed.
Jungkook stood up and watched him with a heated gaze.
'So you are okay with letting us live under the same roof as her?'
Jungkook uncharacteristically began yelling at Namjoon.
'Yes I am', Namjoon answered nonchalantly.
All heads turned to him. Waiting for an explanation.
'The government is planning something. Something that could lead to the deaths of people in the Mines', he stood up and grabbed the soaked bag that was next to Zero and placed it on the table, 'It is better to have her on our side than as an enemy'.
No one graced him with a response.
They all watched as he gestured to Zero to open the bag.
Taehyung and Jungkook looked at the familiar plastic syringes filled with a blue liquid. She explained that they were 'suppressors' which were used to slow down the rate of infection and were used to help the mutants turn back to their normal state.
'Tell them what you told me Zero', Namjoon encouraged as he stood next to her.
'The facility was mass producing a pill that they have been selling to people', she began to explain.
Yoongi shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
'The pill kills humans', she stated in a grave tone.
'What does it look like?'Yoongi quipped.
He hoped that it wasn't the pill he was thinking of.
'It has a yellow 'X' on it'.
Yoongi felt the familiar shadow creeping back up behind him. This time it seemed that no miracle would lead to him getting rid of it.
'WHY?' he yelled.
The question was directed to no one in particular. He was asking why luck was never on his side. Why it always had to be him. Why he was stupid enough to fall for Bugsy's stupid tricks?
'The pill was used to enhance the abilities of mutants like me. But it is deadly to humans,' she stated in response.
She sank back down to the drenched spot on the seat that she had left behind.
'Back in Facility A, Sullivan brought some human children our age and they started training with us. At first, the mutation would seem like it was working. They would get stronger and faster just like us, but soon enough they would start to get weak and begin rotting from the inside. That's when the virus would completely take over their dead bodies.'
'So they became zombies?', Taehyung and Jungkook asked in unison.
'That's what they are called?', she asked.
The pair blankly nodded in response.
Yoongi's skin blanched further.
'Do I smell like one of them?' he asked hesitantly.
Zero shook her head in response.
Yoongi hunched over and his shoulders shook as his bitter laughter filled the room.
Jin connected the dots when he saw Yoongi's strange behaviour.
'Is this about what happened at your trailer that day?', Jin asked.
He walked over to shake Yoongi lightly.
Everyone else exchanged confused glances.
'Bugsy's been selling a drug with that exact description', Yoongi revealed.
'What drug?', Namjoon asked as he watched him through furrowed brows.
'Ambrosia', he responded.
His dry laughter shattered the silence in the room.
'Did that bastard sell that shit to you?' Hoseok's voice was filled with unbridled rage as he crossed his arms.
Yoongi's lack of a response was the only response needed.
'Namjoon, It's time for you to become the King of the Mines', Hoseok addressed their leader.
They had all finally come to a unanimous decision. Zero was going to stay and help them get revenge on anyone who messed with them. Both Bugsy and the government are going to have hell to pay.
'Whether you like it or not', Namjoon looked directly at Jungkook,' I'm appointing Zero to be a part of the group as our bodyguard'.
'Any complaints?'
He smiled in satisfaction when no one raised a hand.
