Zero only has one goal, to be human. Escaping from the cell that once contained her, the outside world, which she longed to see for so long, is filled with more darkness than she expected.
She is faced with a world that is determined to label her a...
Nine groaned as he stood up. His vision was blurry as he looked at his palms that rested on the once pristine white floor. He felt like the walls were going to converge and swallow him whole.
He was back to the daily routine of lying in a pool of his blood. He was in Facility D, where Professor Sullivan was subjecting him to rigorous physical conditioning. He should have been used to that treatment. However, pain isn't something anyone can build a tolerance to.
He pulled out the knives that were sticking out from his body. He was sick and tired of being beaten up like a rag doll.
He could easily kill every human and escape but had to be patient and trust that Zero would complete her part of the plan.
Trust was a foreign concept to him. Considering how he had been treated by humans his whole life. The men in black uniforms had their eyes on him. Their eyes were set ablaze by the pure hatred that they had for him.
He heard the television in the opposite room switch to the news channel. The President was declared to be missing.
A genuine smile weaved itself across his lips.
He instinctively knew that it was Zero's doing.
The uniformed men in the room were all cowering away. Seeing a deadly mutant covered in blood smiling as he pulled knives out of his body was not a sight that any normal human being would be unphased by.
Professor Sullivan approached him and watched his wounds heal with a concentrated gaze.
'You're not healing fast enough, I need to increase your control threshold to attract investors', she grumbled.
'Whatever Sulli, I'm taking a quick break first', he tapped her shoulder as he began walking toward the exit.
'I know that you've joined hands with Zero'.
Nine paused but didn't bother to turn around. He didn't want to see the smug look that would be occupying her face.
'You think I'm stupid enough to give you my full trust? I had already known her exact location thanks to you. I watched that 'heartwarming' scene of all you coming together to bring me down.'
Nine turned slowly to face her.
'We can't be cured right?'
She let out a light-hearted chuckle.
'Thanks to you and Zero's plan, I have eliminated the biggest threat to my safety. Now there's nothing you can do to stop me'.
'Haven't you done enough?', Nine asked through gritted teeth.
'You and Zero are mine. I will not allow my decades of hard work to amount to nothing just because you both grew a conscious. It won't be enough until the whole world is at my mercy'.
Nine remained standing as she strutted out with her head held high. He could feel the phantom pain of the chains looping around his neck again. It seemed that no matter how far he tried to run, he would never escape from her reach.
He was doomed to be a puppet for as long as he lived. He looked at his hands and wondered how much blood he needed to spill to be free.
