They all stood outside Facility C in poignant silence. They had run out of the last batch and the number of infected people who turned into zombies in the safe zones increased. The building was much larger in scale than the last one. Zero kicked the gate hard enough to knock it off its hinges, making the others take hesitant steps away from her.She looked at the large 'X' and hoped against all odds that what she was searching for was in there. Then no one would ever look at her with disgust in their eyes. Then no one would ever blame her for things that weren't her fault like the people in the safe zones had.
The gang had spent the morning sneaking into the Golden City through the secret Mine tunnels that connected the two places. After that, much to Hoseok's displeasure, they had to walk through the underground train tunnels to avoid being spotted by the military trucks that were roaming around.
The city had turned into a complete ghost town. It had drastically changed from the utopia it once was. The people that once walked on the streets were replaced by grey-faced ghouls who roamed around the streets, in search of the next human they would kill.
The facility was in charge of the physical conditioning of the mutants. In that building, they had been stabbed, shot and beaten repeatedly to increase their threshold for the pain they could endure.
Zero didn't sense any presence in the building which was odd. The place was usually always swarming with activity.
The group all strapped their bags closely as they walked into the building.
They all huddled close to Zero who directed them to the basement cellar where the last batch of suppressors were kept.
The steel doors guarding the room were locked. She crushed the silver metal padlock in her hand and tossed it away. A kick was delivered to the door which opened up to reveal a room with rows and rows of the thing they needed.
'Guys since I've done it before I'll be the leader'.
Taehyung announced with a proud smile as he stood in front of them.
Yoongi gently shoved him out of the way.
'It's just putting shit in a bag, how hard can it be?', he retorted.
Yoongi felt relieved to see the amount that was in the room. The batch that Zero had was running out and he was afraid that he would turn and hurt his family. So he hadn't been able to sleep for days in fear that he would wake up to a world filled with darkness again.
'Yoongi,' Taehyung whined, 'There's a specific system you have to follow so you can efficiently fill the bag with the largest amount', he explained.
All of them turned to look at him.
'Who are you?', Jungkook asked.
Taehyung looked at him with a hopeful smile on his face. Maybe now they would go back to being friends and put the incident behind them.
'What do you mean?'
'You almost sounded smart', Jungkook said.
Taehyung rolled his eyes.
'Fuck off', he shoved him,' I liked it better when you weren't talking', he said jokefully.
Namjoon cleared his throat and they all started loading up the bags.
Zero walked among the rows in great haste. Her shaking hands roamed the shelves, practically knocking some of the syringes down. She hoped to see a white liquid in them but only saw blue.
Zero heard light footsteps approach them from the corridor. A terrible feeling of dread captured her. She could not tell who was on the other end of the door.
The thought that it might be Professor Sullivan crossed her mind.
She turned and left the room so quickly that no one noticed her absence.
Or so she thought.
