Nine groaned as he opened his eyes. He could sense that a bright light was shining down on him.
The last thing he remembered was a giant wall of fire enveloping him. He could still hear the screams of the other mutants as the fire devoured them. He could remember hearing their last breaths and their heartbeats grow weaker and weaker before they faded away.
'You're awake', Professor Sullivan placed her hand on his.
His brown eyes looked at her in shock.
He sat up on the comfortable hospital bed. It had been his first time sleeping on an actual bed and not having his body weighed down by chains. All he wanted to do was to go back to sleep.
'What happened that night?', he asked.
Sullivan cleared her throat.
'Zero set the building on fire and killed everyone', she revealed in a sad tone.
'What? How could she do that?', he asked.
Sullivan shook her head.
'She ran away to live with humans, she betrayed your kind'.
Nine was ready to track her down wherever she hid.
'I'll kill her'.
The professor shook her head in disapproval.
'Not yet', she stood up,' I need you to find a human called Bugsy from the Mines and collect all the ambrosia that he has'.
Nine furrowed his brows in confusion.
'Why are you interested in this human?'
The professor walked towards the window that overlooked the city.
'I want to recruit him to be a part of our team', she explained as she wiped her glasses.
She put them back on and she looked at him.
'There are also a few people that I need to send the samples to,' she added.
' Understood', Nine gave a curt nod in response.
