➷(16) THE ILLUSION

Da-hye discovered that Yul had the same illusion as her. They figured Mu-deok would be at Chwiseonru. Dang-gu accompanied them to Chwiseonru. When they got there, they heard Mu-deok had been dragged away to Jinyowon. So they decided to go to Jinyowon.

Da-hye wanted to know what was it that caused the illusion or if there was a possibility that Mu-deok entered Jinyowon and accidentally touched something she shouldn't have. But how could she had entered Jinyowon?

"Mages from Jeongjingak are here to visit." A Jinyowon soldier said.

The Crown Prince saw Da-hye, Yul, and Dang-gu. Da-hye was wearing a black and white dress. It was pretty, he liked it.

Da-hye wondered why the Crown Prince was here. "Your Royal Highness, what brings you here?" Yul asked.

"What about you, Yul?" The Crown Prince asked.

"Da-hye and I are here to look for someone." Yul explained.

"Did you also come here looking for Mu-deok?" The Crown Prince asked. Had the he received the illusion as well? But why him?

"Yes." Yul said. "We are here for Mu-deok."

"She broke the Ying and Yang jade, then ran away with it to avoid getting punished." Jin Cho-yeon explained.

"But why did you not get the wedding rings made?" Dang-gu asked, furrowing her eyebrows. "I went to Chwiseonru to lend you my hand, but I heard you already had left."

"I just decided to postpone it." Cho-yeon mumbled.

"Why are you two looking for Mu-deok?" The Crown Prince asked.

"We also had the exact same illusion as you, Your Royal Highness." Yul spoke first.

"But, it was not Mu-deok. It was an illusion." Da-hye added.

"Does that mean what I saw was also an illusion?" The Crown Prince asked.

"It was odd, so we went to Chwiseonru looking for Mu-deok." Yul said. "They told us she was dragged here."

"She was not dragged here. She was here to run an errand." Lady Jin said. "And she disappeared with something precious. We are in search of a thief, not an illusion. There is her owner."

Da-hye saw that Jang Uk was here. Jin Cho-yeon explained to Uk what Mu-deok had done. Da-hye almost didn't believe her story. Why would Mu-deok be scared?

Perhaps she was scared of someone finding out she was a soul shifter? But that did not make sense to Da-hye.

"My maid has committed a disgraceful act. I am fully responsible as her master. I apologize." Uk turned to look at Cho-yeon. "You must be upset about having lost the jade to be used for the wedding rings."

"I pleaded to my mother for that yin-and-yang jade." Cho-yeon said. "Yin-and-Yang wedding rings allow couples to have a long and happy marriage. But it is broken now."

"I did not know that it held such a deep meaning." Uk said. "I must say, I am upset too." Did Uk really want to marry Jin Cho-yeon after he broke off their engagement? Was he that desperate to not attend the duel?

"We will find a more valuable jade for the wedding rings." Maidservant Kim said.

"I appreciate your sincere apology." Lady Jin said. "You may all leave now." That was it? Da-hye could not know what caused the illusion? She was not just going to leave without knowing.

"I cannot do that." Uk said. "I need to find Mu-deok. I want to find that wicked maid and have her return the yin-and-yang jade." Uk explained. "She is weak and has short legs, so she will not have traveled far. I would like your permission to stay and look for her myself."
