➷(22) WORDS OF THE HEART

Da-hye had fallen asleep almost as soon as she got into her room. She was exhausted. "Da-hye wake up!" Dang-gu shook Da-hye.

"Wait, step back." Da-hye said sleepily.

"Okay." Dang-gu stepped back. "I do not see why I have to..." he couldn't finish his sentence before Da-hye had thrown a pillow at him.

"Da-hye!" Dang-gu shouted.

"What?" Da-hye said as she got up.

"You threw a pillow at me!" Dang-gu said.

"No, no. I did not." she denied it. "You must be imagining things." Da-hye sleepily walked to the door of her room.

Dang-gu followed behind her. "You are right. I must still be a little tipsy from yesterday." Da-hye hid her laughter. Dang-gu was so gullible.

Dang-gu and Da-hye met up with Yul. "I guess Mu-deok thought she would also be able to follow Uk into Songrim." Dang-gu said. "I bet she was excited about seeing you every day." he told Yul. "She must be disappointed."

Yul seemed kind of off today. "Yes, I wonder if she is doing all right." he said.

"I am sure she is fine." Da-hye said. "She's always complaining about Uk. I think she is glad to take a break from him."

Dang-gu sighed. They saw Uk walking to the leader's room."Uk must have found out." Dang-gu said. "He must be on his way to meet my uncle. He will never approve of it."

After a while, the three of them decided to go check on Uk. Uk had finished the basic training way too quickly. Sang-ho looked through it.

"You have already memorized and written all of this down?" Sang-ho asked.

"Yes, feel free to check. I am certain I memorized everything." Uk said. He had done it so quickly. It had taken Da-hye 2 weeks to do that.

"Even so, it should have taken you at least a month." Sang-ho said.

"I served 12 masters so far and thus have read the same book 12 times." Uk said. "You could say that this task was a piece of cake, to say the least."

"I was wondering why he agreed to obey the rules." Dang-gu whispered. "He had his reasons."

"Now that I can leave Songrim whenever I want, I will go home." Uk announced.

"Not so fast." The leader said. Sang-ho stood up and bowed to him.

"Why not?" Uk said. "The rules say I can leave once I master basic education."

"When I asked you to read that, I did not simply mean to memorize it." The leader said. "I want you to engrave it in your heart. But since you were sly enough to deceive us, I do not believe that you have mastered this learning."

"I did not know that the leader could change Songrim's rule however he wanted." Uk said.

"Here you go." The leader held a book. "I have another task for you. If you read this book as well, then I will allow you to leave Songrim whenever you wish." The leader explained. The book was Words of the Heart written by Master Seo Gyeong. It was almost impossible to read as a new mage. The words were invisible.

"No." Dang-gu whispered. To Da-hye it was pretty funny.

"Are you sure that I can go outside after reading this book?" Uk asked.

"That is right." The leader said. "I hope reading this book will be another piece of cake for you." he commented.

"This is terrible." Yul said. "Mu-deok will not be able to see Uk for a while."
