Eight

You sit in complete darkness, waiting patiently for Tanjiro to awaken while listening to the people around him discuss what they should do with him.

Earlier he had been on a mission with Zenitsu and Inosuke which led to him fighting one of the twelve kizuki. Tanjiro and Nezuko were the two facing the lower moon and unfortunately it didn't go very well for them. They both were able to hold their own quite well but still sustained pretty serious injuries. It almost got to the point where you were willing to reveal yourself to the lower moon, and in turn Kibutsuji. Thankfully another slayer Tanjiro had previously met stepped in and killed the moon effortlessly.

Now you're playing a waiting game as you're stuck hidden away in the necklace currently resting beneath Tanjiro's shirt. So far nobody has mentioned Zenitsu or Inosuke so you're unsure how they are. All they've spoken about is how they should simply kill the boy and his demon sister without even waiting for their master to arrive.

Thankfully Tanjiro is forced awake after some time. "How long are you going to sleep?! Get up already, would ya?! You're in the presence of the Hashira!"

You can practically feel Tanjiro's confusion and panic as somebody else begins speaking. "This is the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters. And you, Tanjiro Kamado, are about to be put on trial."

"There's no need for a trial!" A different voice cuts in, significantly louder than the first. "Protecting a demon is clearly against Corps rules! Let's just lop off his head along with the demons!" If only they knew that he was actually traveling with two demons, not just one.

"I'll cut off his head with style! Even the blood splashes will have panache! Really flashy-flash!"

"Aw... What pitiful children. How sad. It's a tragedy they were even born!"

The necklace you reside in swings slightly as Tanjiro looks around in search of his sister, the swinging only stopping when his attention is drawn to someone else. "Forget about him. What are we going to do about Tomioka? Kocho says Tomioka broke Corps rules too. What shall we do about this? How shall he take responsibility? What price shall he pay? Right now he's just wandering around freely, and that gives me a headache."

"We needn't worry about him." The first voice cuts in once more, a lot more gentle and kind than the previous. "He came along without a fight. I'm more interested in questioning the boy. We can consider a suitable punishment later." Tanjiro opens his mouth to speak only to break into a coughing fit, his jaw twinging in pain. "Here, drink some water. Your jaw is hurt, so drink slowly. Then you can talk. It contains a pain killer, so you'll feel better. Your wound hasn't healed, so don't overdo it."

"My sister was turned into a demon... but she hasn't eaten any human flesh! She hasn't and she won't! Nezuko will never hurt anyone!" Tanjiro tries his best to convince the Hashira standing before him that his sister is innocent but you know it won't be that simple.

"Stop spewing such nonsense. I don't trust anything anyone says, and I especially don't trust you. She's your sister! Of course you'll protect her!"

"Aw... He's possessed by a demon." The sadly stated sentence makes you snort despite the seriousness of the situation. "Hurry up and kill the child to set him free."

"Please hear me out!" Tanjiro begs. "I became a swordsman so I could protect Nezuko! It's been more than two years since she became a demon! In all that time, she hasn't bitten anyone!"

"This conversation is just spinning in circles. She hasn't bitten anyone? And she isn't going to? Just words! Show me! Impress me!"

"I'm not sure about this..." A different gentle feminine voice speaks up. "The master of the mansion must be aware of this. So, should we really handle it on our own? Shouldn't we wait until he gets back?"

"My sister has fought alongside me!" Tanjiro yells, desperate for them to listen to him. "She can fight for the Demon Slayer Corps and protect people!"

"Say... This is getting interesting." Somebody new cuts in, and you can faintly hear someone begging him to put a box down. "Is that the idiotic corps member who travels with a demon? Just what is going on here anyway?"

"Shinazugawa, don't do anything rash." You've already decided you don't like this Shinazugawa guy.

"What about this demon, boy? You say she can protect people and fight for the corps? That's incredible! Amazing! Why that's... completely impossible you fool!" There's a pause as the man suddenly shoves his blade through the box, piercing it through Nezuko.

Tanjiro quickly gets up despite his arms being restrained, rushing towards the man who dared to stab his sister. "I don't care if you're a Hashira or whatever! I won't let anyone hurt my sister!" As Tanjiro jumps up, your necklace comes out from his shirt, allowing you the perfect view to watch him slam his head against Shinazugawa's. Stunned from the hit, the man drops the box containing Nezuko allowing Tanjiro to place himself protectively in front of it. "If you can't tell the difference between a good demon and a bad demon... then you don't deserve to be a Hashira!"

"The master of the mansion has arrived!" A young voice calls out, effectively stopping everyone.

"Welcome, my dear Demon Slayers."
