Eighteen

After weeks of training and mastering total concentration breathing constant, the boys were finally cleared to return to missions. Their very first mission is to meet with Rengoku, the flame Hashira, on the infinity train. Of course, you are accompanying them, comfortably resting within Tanjiro's necklace with numerous bentos the young butterfly girls prepared for you. Within your time staying at the estate they noticed you eat a lot so they made sure to pack all of your favorites so you wouldn't get hungry during the travels.

Arriving at the train station was amusing to say the least. Inosuke had no clue what the train was and assumed it was a large beast. He desperately wanted to fight it but Zenitsu absolutely refused to allow him to do so as he tried his best to explain what the train actually was. However, Tanjiro who also apparently didn't know what a train was tried reasoning that it was possibly the protective guardian of the land. It didn't work very well when Inosuke still head butted the train which pulled the attention of the guards who then chased them as they had swords.

After outrunning the guards, the trio had to run after the departing train and jump onto the back of it in order to board. Once aboard the train they went through the carts in search of the Hashira they were joining. It was pretty easy to find him since he was yelling loudly while eating a large stack of bentos. He must enjoy eating much like you and Mitsuri.

"Uh, excuse me, sir?" Tanjiro tries to get his attention only for the man to continue eating. "Rengoku?"

"It's you." Rengoku finally acknowledges Tanjiro. "You were at the mansion."

"Yes, I'm Tanjiro Kamado. This is Zenitsu Agatsuma and this here is Inosuke Hashibira." Tanjiro introduces himself and his two comrades.

"I see. Also, isn't there one in that box?" Tanjiro confirms that his sister Nezuko is in the box, allowing Rengoku to continue. "Yes! I remember the demon. Since the Master accepted her, I will keep my peace. Sit down, won't you?" As Inosuke bangs on the window of the train, Rengoku questions Tanjiro. "What brings the three of you here? A mission?"

"Yes, we were ordered to join you. We received a message from a crow which let us know that casualties on this train were on the rise."

"Ah, that's why you're here. Understood."

"Sir... there was one more thing. Something I wanted to ask you. It's about my father." Tanjiro's voice sounds almost hesitant and melancholic.

"What about your father?"

"He was a frail man... and yet he could perform a kagura dance in freezing weather. And then... Hinokami Kagura, the dance... I found myself doing it, just like my father used to. I was hoping if you knew anything about that dance, you'd be willing to tell me."

There's a long pause of silence before Rengoku answers. "Certainly! But I don't! I have never even heard of that dance, not once. Your father taking this kagura and adapting it for battle is commendable. There's nothing more to say about it!"

"Hang on! Are you sure you can't think of-"

"You should become my Tsuguko!" Rengoku suddenly interrupts. "I'll look after you!" When Tanjiro tells him to wait, Rengoku ignores him. "Flame breathing has a long history. A Hashira of flame and of water have always existed. Flame, water, wind, stone, and thunder. The breathing fundamentals. All other techniques branched off from those five, like how mist is a branch of wind. Mizoguchi, what color is your sword?"

"Huh? My name is Kamado, and my sword is black."

"Is it now? How unfortunate!" Rengoku laughs. Tanjiro questions why he says that, and Rengoku readily answers. "I have yet to see one with a black sword become a Hashira. Also, I hear they have no idea what style to master. There is no need for you to worry! I can train you!"

The conversation ends there as they both fall silent. The only sounds left to be heard being the rumbling of the train chugging along the track and Inosuke's loud laughter and yelling. Zenitsu tries his best to keep Inosuke from jumping out of the train window in order to see who is faster and you find it to be quite amusing to listen to. From where Tanjiro is sitting, you can't exactly see anything except the seat in front of him, so you can only listen to what's going on.

The two boys only stop when Rengoku mentions a demon appearing. This, of course, makes Zenitsu freak out as he thought the train was taking them to where the demon was, not that the demon was already on the train. Rengoku then takes the time to explain to them about how over forty people have gone missing from the train. He also tells them of how they sent several swordsman but all of them have vanished which is why he is there. This only makes Zenitsu freak out more.

As Zenitsu is panicking, a door slides open. The man who checks the validity of the tickets enters the cabin, walking slowly down the aisle towards the group so he can clip each of their tickets. Suddenly, the lights flicker and Rengoku gets up, stopping the man from moving any further once he finished clipping their tickets. Rengoku apologizes for the sword and informs the man to stand at a safe distance.

As the lights flicker once more, the demon makes its appearance. The demon barely gets a chance to do anything before its head is chopped off by Rengoku. As Rengoku uses his breathing technique, you get a memory of the previous flame Hashira. You had met him once when visiting Kagaya and his family. You believe it was when he retired. Now that you think about it, Rengoku shares his name and looks. He must be the man's son.

The group moves on to another cabin where a second demon has made an appearance. Inosuke, being the overly enthusiastic guy that he is, charges in head first with little thought. He's barely able to parry the spikes that shoot out of the demons sides. Luckily, Rengoku is quick to get him out of harms way before doubling back to get the civilian. Once the man is safe Rengoku focuses on fighting the demon. In a single move the demons head is detached from its body, leaving it to disintegrate into nothing.

With the two demons taken care of, the group returns to their seats where they promptly fall asleep. You already know what's going on, and you're quite interested to see how everything plays out.
