Chapter 11: Cursed & Confused
----
"KIARA!" I FELT SOMEONE SHAKING ME, over and over again. As I soon as I regained consciousness, my eyes shot open and my body sprain up --pushing whoever was shaking me -- off the bed.
"Ow!" I heard someone grumble.
"Holy crap." I said as I took in what I just witnessed.
"Holy crap is right!" Cecil muttered as he got up and brushed himself off. "You were muttered some weird stuff in your sleep and next thing I know -- your glowing!" He said with pure shock and confusion.
"What?" I said as I looked down I realized the paw mark with smoke surrounding it had burned through my shirt. And the covers. I also took in that I was sweating like crazy.
"That's the mark isn't it?" Cecil gained his composure. "That's the cursed mark."
"Uh, so I've been told." I related back to my previous vision with Henry and Thorn.
" I knew you were special I just didn't know you were the one!" Cecil muttered over me, as I he began to pace in the room.
"Why is it a curse --"
"Goddammit!" He ran his hands through his hair, still astonished.
"Cecil, --"
"You're the one! The one the Guardians have been looking for, for centuries!"
"Wait what? And you better not interrupt me again." I growled. I hated when people interrupted and ignored me. It made me feel unwanted in the situation.
"The Guardians. They were the ones that took you and protected you, like Julie. It's also said that they will do whatever it takes so you never find the three born sons." He stated as if it were obvious. When I continued to give a blank stare, he signed and continued explaining. "The only reason why you have the mark means that the other three sons have all come to age and you're their key to power."
"And who are these three born sons?"
"They are the descendants of the gods. Well, my gods. Not yours." He placed himself at the end of my bed. "The sons of Abnu. Please tell me you've heard that tale."
"So that's the tale with Logan --"
"Lōgen."he interrupted using an accent I've never heard before.
"... And with Leo--"
"Lēō." Cecil said with the same accent as before.
" ...and finally Michael?" I paused, waiting for Cecil to say his name in the strange accent.
"Michael. It sounds the same really." He shrugged it off while rubbing the back of his neck.
"What language was that?" I said as I got out of bed and decided to stretch my legs. Man, how long was I out?
"Latin." He said as he got up and walked over to a table with food covering every inch of it. I didn't realize how I hungry I was till my stomach let out a growl which sounded like a lions roar. I was starving. I quickly walked over to the table and picked up a muffin and ate it.
"Oh yeah," Cecil scoffed, " help yourself."
"Sorry." I said between each bite of what was left of the muffin, but it just came as "Awry." Cecil then laughed and picked a few things off the table for himself and sat back down on the end of my bed. Me, on the other hand, wasn't planning to leave this table anytime soon. Once the muffin was down I got down to business. "
"You get all this?" I asked, turning back to face the food and decide what I was going to eat next.
"Yeah." I just grunted a response and signalled for him to continue. "So anyway, the reason why it's called a curse is because once you're branded with the mark, it's said that no matter what-- you will try to find each other."
"So like a teenager who lost their phone." I stated simply. This was still somewhat confusing to me. Cecil just gave me a side glare, and muttered something I couldn't quite make out.
"Pretty much, in summary, those who bare the curse are the three chosen sons of Abnu and they have to find you and mate with you in order to take the throne and have full power." As I took this in, something didn't quite fit.
"Mate?" I said echoing my thoughts. "What are they, werewolves?" I laughed, but then I caught Cecil eyes and that laugh turned into a nervous one. "They aren't werewolves right?" My eyes nearly as wide as the moon.
That was non pun intended ...
"Uh, no." He stated as if it were obvious. "I thought you knew the story of Abnu?"
"Yeah, I just told you the three people--"
"Brothers." He rolled his eyes as he interrupted me. Yet again.
"--brothers." I finished. Man this dude liked to interrupt.
"But you don't know what they are, do you?" Cecil squinted at me.
"I swear if you say vampires, I'm walking out that door. I don't plan on being anyone's Bella." I don't know why, but when he started laughing I was utterly confused. I wasn't planning on being funny, yet there he was -- laughing uncontrollably. Right as I was about to go over there and make him stop laughing at my Twilight reference -- which was probably going to involved physical contact -- someone burst through the door.
"Dad," Cecil said with all seriousness.
"Well that stopped him from laughing."
"We have to leave. Now." Andrew ordered. I saw him look from Cecil to me and the state we were in, which included me in the same clothes as yesterday and my mascara was probably smudged making me look like a bum. Yeah, I had dark skin, but it still showed. "Get your stuff, we have Guardians closing in." Andrew continued and shoved a few things in a duffle bag.
"Guardians?" I questioned, "I thought you said they were the good guys? My protectors?"
"Yeah, cupcake, till we find you. Julie probably tipped them off where we were."
"What?" I turned to Cecil. "Why would she do that?"
"Because she's a Guardian. It's in her blood not to have you reach any of the Kings." Before I could say anything, Andrew beat me to it.
"Enough chit chat. We leave. Now."
Next thing I knew I was being rushed out of the hotel and back to the car and put in the back seat. I didn't even bother to fight to get out. I watched as Cecil and his father, packed their things and followed to the front of the car. With the roar of the engine, Andrew took off speeding down the road. I just wished I took in how close the Guardians actually were. Because when I turned to look through the rear window, I soon regretted it.
Following us, at a tempo just as fast as ours, was three cars. And all saw was Julie driving one of them with determination and anger. And Julie always got what she wanted.
Always.
