The following day of school was supposed to be the start of our long-awaited spring break, but there was a catch.
We had to go to school to receive the dreaded homework assignments that our teachers had kindly provided to ensure we didn't completely forget about learning during our one-week holiday. It was a cruel twist of fate.
As I sat in class, I couldn't help but daydream about the exciting plans I had for the break. I was looking forward to going to Vernon's house with my best friend, Yeji. The school day mercifully ended early, and all the students rushed out of the school gate, heading in opposite directions to wherever they had decided to go. Yeji and I, however, were on a mission. We walked to Vernon's house, our excitement growing with every step.
Before we reached his house, Yeji pointed out that we should fetch our swimsuit since Vernon told her that he was planning on hosting a pool party as well.
The weather was perfect. The sun was out. The heat gave people the urge to relax in a pool or even go to the beach. We quickly ran to our house and picked out our favorite swimsuit.
My parents knew that after school I was going to Vernon's house. At least I told them my whereabouts, unlike the other time when I went to the party without them knowing.
I met up with Yeji at her once and off we went to Vernon's house with our swimsuits in a different backpack.
As we arrived, we spotted Jia, Hyunjin, and Vernon outside the house. Vernon greeted us with a warm smile and welcomed us inside. Once we were all assembled, Hoshi, Soobin, and Yeonjun arrived, and Vernon graciously extended his hospitality to them as well.
We spent the remainder of the morning playing board games, watching movies, and cooking up delicious meals together. It was the kind of quality time that solidified our friendship and made us cherish these moments.
Once we noticed a few people entering Vernon's house wearing their swimsuits, my friends and I decided to change into our own swimsuits.
I was quick to change into mine. After doing so, I headed downstairs to the kitchen to pour myself a glass of water. I looked around and watched as more and more people arrived at the party.
While I was in the kitchen, Jia approached me with a sly smile. She whispered, "Hoshi is looking for you. He's in one of the bedrooms."
I hesitated, not sure if I wanted to see him, but Jia finally convinced me to go upstairs. Before I headed up, we witnessed more people entering the house, turning the gathering into an impromptu pool party. It was the perfect opportunity for me to disappear without anyone noticing.
I made my way upstairs, checking every bedroom in search of Hoshi. When I finally found him, his face lit up with excitement upon seeing me.
"Hoshi," I stammered, "I didn't expect to find you here."
He grinned and replied, "I've been waiting for you. Come closer."
I sat down on the bed next to him. There was awkward silence at first, but not for long. "Did you plan this with Vernon?"
A smirk appeared on his face. I chuckled, knowing that I've caught him in his tracks. He explained that he just wanted to spend more time with me without any disturbance.
I understood him completely. Yeji would've probably swarmed around us like a wasp, Jia would've taken secret pictures of us, and Hyunjin would've probably attacked Hoshi.
As we spoke about our plans for our spring break, I couldn't brush off the feeling of probably having some sort of liking towards him.
Despite we having been friends since elementary school and growing up together, we were indeed close. However, I've never thought we would reach this point.
"I want you."
I was honestly flattered by his statement. As much as I would have probably felt the same way internally, I was too afraid to admit the same thing in fear of being embarrassed.
"In what way?" I asked.
As he came closer to me, I leaned back until my body was lying on the bed as I looked up at him.
"In all ways possible, but you do know what I mean."
I looked at him and noticed that his eyes glimmered with excitement. "Do you want this again?"
I knew what he meant. As much as I wanted to reject it but I couldn't bring myself to it. I was comfortable with him. I trusted Hoshi. As much as I was fearful of him possibly telling people about what we did, he didn't at all, which made me trust him even more.
I pulled him forward with my arms wrapped around his neck. "Of course, I do want you."
