I was nervous to see Jason after last night. If he started being an idiot with all his friends, I'd never speak to him again. They're all the same though, nice when they're on their own but once they get in a gang, they behave like complete and utter pricks.
As I was putting on my neatly folded school uniform, I started feeling a little bit sick. After re adjusting my tie, I looked into the mirror. I had huge bags under my eyes. My mum's make up bag lay on the side.... I shouldn't use her expensive concealer.... Should I?
De-bagged and setting out the door, my skirt got caught in it. Wonderful. I tugged at the grey cotton until it came loose; flinging me onto the cold, muddy grass. A large, brown stain coated the hem line. I took a deep breath and wiped my skirt on the edge of the wall. The mud came off quickly and efficiently.
As usual the walk to school presented a few hold ups. There had been a crash on the road outside my house, minor but still enough for the police to have been called. Miss Ingis, the lollipop lady had failed to turn up for the third day in a row so me; along with a group of younger girls had to cross numerous busy roads, risking our life as we did so.
The school yard was derelict, as it normally was at this time. No teacher stood waiting for the pupils like they normally did. The whole school felt abandoned. I punched the code into the pin device and the door clicked satisfyingly. The door scraped along the carpet (which was obviously too long for the door to fit over but no one had ever changed it.)
The classroom door creaked open as I pushed it with my clammy hands. Empty. I placed my new pencil case inside my locker and opened my bag to see my lesson plan. I reached into my locker and pushed my science books to one side. My maths book was rolled up with a large crease down the middle. I tried to grab it but it was too far back. As I was reaching further into my locker, a hand slammed down on the locker next to me, nearly giving me a heart attack.
"Hey beautiful."
Jason."Hi... Hey.”
I closed my locker and faced him. Jason's hazel eyes, stared back at me. His hair was gelled back. His green tie draped gently round his neck, his black jumper hung loosely over his torso and his grey shoes scuffed. He flashed me a smile and embraced me softly.
“I’m sorry about cutting you off last night, my mum came in.”
“I thought she might’ve done.” He smiled. "I've missed you."
I breathed a sigh of relief. "I've missed you too."
He plunged his hands into his trouser pockets. "Close your eyes."
"What? Jason, what are you doing?"
"Just close them."
I did as I was told. I hated closing my eyes, I felt so vulnerable. I held onto Jason's wrist as he grabbed my hand. He stretched it out and wrapped my fingers around a small box.
