I tried to occupy my mind with the work we'd been set but my eyes kept getting drawn to the figure sat next to me. His brown eyes sparkled as I turned to face him. He stuck his tongue out and scrunched his face up. I rounded my mouth and made my teeth protrude from it.
He stood up and went to the front of the room. The low humming sound of the mechanical pencil sharpener echoed round the sterile room. He bobbed up and down - shimmying in the direction of the teacher's back. I snorted. The teacher glared at me from the front.
Quickly, I looked down and carried on writing.
Once he'd finished, he moon walked back to me.
"Jason Truman, please sit down." The teacher boomed.
"Sorry sir, I tripped."
The teacher nodded and went back to his marking. Jason pulled out the seat next to me and gave the teacher the finger. My eyes opened wide and I pulled his hands down. "Jason!"
"I'm sorry, I couldn't resist! Look, I didn't mean to get you another detention. Did you see her face though? It was hilarious!" He laughed.
"No, it wasn't. I can't get in trouble again ok Jason?"
"Ok..." He pulled his lips down and made mock serious face. "It is completely unacceptable." He couldn't keep the act and up and started sniggering quietly.
My heart started beating really fast. His infectious laugh made my face break into a grin. I tried really hard to keep a stern face but I couldn't.
"It is COMPLETELY unacceptable Jason!"
I managed to regain my angry face and I turned away from him to conceal my laughter. My shoulders were still shaking uncontrollably as I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing out loud.
Jason reached over and looped his fingers round my necklace. His warm fingers traced the beautiful silver pattern as he gazed into my eyes. I looked down to the necklace. "It's beautiful, where did you get it from?"
"It's.... erm.... well..... Just some shop.... I can't really remember...." Jason muttered. "Anyway, let's talk about this weekend. What do you fancy seeing at the cinema? There's this rom-com that I saw the trailer for which looks really go-."
Oh my god. I knew it. I stared in disbelief at the garment which hung loosely round my neck. All the blood drained from my face as it hit me like a wave. My eyes clouded over. "You didn't?" I whispered.
Jason looked puzzled. "Didn't what?"
"I can't believe you...."
"Olivia, are you ok?"
"You stole it.... the necklace... how could you?" The words tumbled out of my mouth. Tears stung my eyes. I pulled away from Jason, anger bubbling inside me.
