Kavita's POV
Sitting on the bed on my wedding night, I wait for my husband to enter the room.
I got married to Sameerji this morning, and right after the wedding, I came to his village with him and his relatives.
Sameerji's village is almost five hours away from mine, and his father is this village's head too.
As I sit here, wating for my husband, I feel strange nervousness within me, which is increasing with each passing second.
I don't even know what kind of person he is because I did not get me meet him even once before our marriage. Only his photo was shown to me.
Sameerji's father had come to our house once due to some work. He had seen me when I served him tea, and right then, he chose me as his son's bride.
Pitaji (Sameer's father) took my photo from my Babuji (Kavita's father), and the very next day, he called to our house to inform us that Sameerji also said yes to the marriage.
No one asked me about my yes or no.
The moment Babuji got the news of Sameerji saying yes to the marriage, he also said yes and fixed my marriage.
After that, I got married to Sameerji within two weeks.
Everything happened so soon that I could not understand anything.
I turned twenty just last month, and once the wedding was fixed, Maa (Kavita's mother) told me about Sameerji being thirty-five years old.
I was too worried after hearing that, but she reassured me, saying since Sameerji is older than me, he will understand me better and love me more too.
That did alleviate some of my worries, and I convinced myself to get married.
I did not have any other option too. After all, Babuji had clearly and sternly told me that he had already given his word to Sameerji's father and he would not back out of it.
My heart clenches painfully when I remember my Babuji and his behavior towards me.
He never showed his love to me. All his love was always for my elder brother, Karan Bhaiyya.
Maa loves me and Karan Bhaiyya (brother) equally. But Babuji has always neglected me infront of Karan Bhaiyya.
Maa sometimes tried to reason with Babuji. I have heard her request to him about loving both their children equally.
But whenever she said that, Babuji got angry and shouted at her. He used to say he would never love a daughter like his beloved son.
The day I heard Babuji say that, I realized I should not keep expectation to get a father's love and affection from him. I understood then that he will never love me like the way he loves Karan Bhaiyya.
But I never thought he would take such big decision of my life without asking me even once.
I sigh as I realize nothing can be done now. I am already married to Sameerji, which is why it is of no use to be sad over the fact that Babuji got me married without asking for my opinion regarding the marriage and Sameerji even once.
The only thing I need to think about- and do- now is how to make this marriage work.
I startle out of my thoughts when I hear the room's door open, and I take a deep breath to lessen the anxiety building within me.
