Third Person's POV

"Kis se puchhke Kavita ko tune tere devar ke saath bheja, Smriti? Itna bhi kya jaruri samaan mangana tha tujhe ki tu maa ke Mandir se ghar aane tak ka bhi intezaar nahi kar payi?" Sameer asks Smriti.

He knew about Kavita not being in the house after he returned home an hour back. And ever since he has been waiting for her to return, so he could show her the consequences of going out of his house without his permission, that too with a man.

"Bhaiyya, aap itna ghuss kyun ho rahe ho? Iss halat mein mujhe kuch na kuch jarurat padti rehti hai. Koi aur ghar pe tha bhi nahi. Isliye maine devarji aur bhabhi se kaha ki woh jaake le aaye," Smriti replies.

"Par tere bin bihaye devar ke saath bhejne ki kya jarurat thi, beti?" Damyanti asks. "Woh iss ghar ki bahu hai. Agar log dekhenge ki iss gaon ki sarpanch ki bahu kisi paraye mard ke saath ghum rahi hai, toh kya hi izzat reh jayegi hamari?"

Before Smriti can say anything to that, Damyanti starts speaking again.

"Par galti sirf teri nahi hai. Tujhse bhi badi galti toh uss Kavita ne ki hai. Tune toh nadani mein keh diya usse jane ke liye, aur woh maan bhi gayi? Ek baar bhi nahi socha ki kisi paraye aadmi ke saath use bahaar nahi jana chahiye?"

"Aap sahi keh rahi hain, maa. Smriti se badi galti Kavita se huyi hai," Sameer adds.

Smriti gets restless upon hearing her brother and her mother. She had thought Kavita would cheer up after spending some time out of the house and she would also cajole everyone in the house so they would not get angry, but she had not anticipated such reaction from everyone.

Even her father looked angry when he got to know about it. He didn't shout or scold her like her mother and brother, but he did give her a disappointed look, shaking his head at her, before storming off to his room.

'Nahi, nahi. Main bhabhi ko meri galti ki wajah se dhaant khane nahi de sakti,' she thinks, deciding to pacify everyone before Kavita gets home.

"Bhaiyya, meri baat suniye. Bhabhi ne toh pehle man-"

Before she could finish her sentence, Sameer interrupts her. "Tune jo karna tha kar liya, jo kehna tha keh liya. Ab chup chap kamre mein jaa ke baith. Kuch kehne ki jarurat nahi hai."

Getting scared by Sameer's booming voice, Smriti gets quiet. Then, nodding at him, she walks away to her room.

Kavita's POV

"Aur kitni der lagegi, Anirudhji? Lag bhag adha ghanta ho chuka hai," I ask as soon as Anirudhji walks to me after talking with the man, who was repairing the car.

"Usne kaha ki adha ghanta aur lagega, Kavitaji."

"Adha ghanta aur? Bohot der ho chuki hai, Anirudhji. Sameerji bhi ghar wapas aagaye honge aur unhe pata bhi chal gaya hoga ki main aapke saath aayi hoon."

My nervousness rises when I think about how angry Sameerji would be right now.

I am sure he thinks I came with Anirudhji with my own volition.

When my saari's pallu had slid down from my head by accident that one time, he had blamed me for it, saying I deliberately did it to show my body to all the men present there.

And now, when I have come to the market with another man without even asking for his permission, I am sure he will blame me for this too.

"Aap itna ghabra kyun rahi hain, Kavitaji? Bhabhi Sameerji ko jarur samjha dengi. Aur phir Sameerji ghussa hi kyun karenge? Main koi anjaan toh nahi hoon. Unka rishteydaar hoon. Aur bazaar bhabhi ke liye samaan lene aaye the. Isme kuch galat toh nahi hai, hai na?"
