Kavita's POV

"Bahu, jaldi kar. Tere sasurji aur pati ko kaam pe jaane ke liye der ho rahi hai," Maaji calls me.

I rush to take the cooked vegetables off the stove, and take it out to where Sameerji and Pitaji are seated.

I was trying to walk fast, but after last night, it was difficult for me to even walk properly.

Sameerji claimed my body repeatedly throughout the night. It was only in the early morning that he let me sleep, but soon after that, Maaji called me for Puja, and I had to wake up before I could sleep for even an hour.

Then, right after the Puja, Maaji told me to start preparing breakfast for everyone.

I am exhausted, and my body feels like it's on the verge of breaking down. Still, I am trying my best to do all my works and fulfill all the responsibilities of being a daughter-in-law of this house.

After all, today is my first day in the house, and I do not want anyone to think I am not capable of doing even basic house chores.

During my Bidaai, Babuji had sternly told me to properly do all the duties of a wife and daughter-in-law of this house. He also made it pretty clear that he is telling that to me because he does not want to hear taunts from anyone regarding him not giving me proper values and upbringing.

"Itni dheere dheere kaam karti hai tu? Achchhe se kaam karna nahi sikaya Maayke mein?" Maaji tells me.

"Maaf kijiye, Maaji. Aaj thodi der ho gayi. Kal se dhyan rakhungi."

"Dekhenge kal kya karegi. Chal dhal se toh lagta nahi ke tujhe kuch bhi dhang se karna aata hai," Maaji says, her tone angry.

Tears gather in my eyes, but I do not say anything. Instead, I start serving food to Pitaji and Sameerji.

I also feel slightly bad because Sameerji did not say anything to defend me. After all, it was what he did with me last night, caused me to be late this morning.

But Sameerji was not paying any attention to me. He was eating his food, completely focused on his conversation with Pitaji regarding their work.

"Raat ka khana bann gaya, Kavita?" Maaji asks me as she enters the kitchen.

"Ji, Maaji. Sab bann gaya hai. Sirf roti baaki hai."

"Thik hai. Jaa aur Sameer ko khane ke liye bula. Roti tab banana jab sab baith jaye khane ke liye. Hum sab ko garam roti khane ki aadat hai."

"Ji, Maaji," I say, and walk out of the kitchen.

Reaching my room, I notice Sameerji resting on the bed.

"Ji, woh khana taiyyar hai."

I am not sure if he heard me because he does not say anything. He keeps leaning against the headboard of the bed with his eyes closed.

"Sameerji," I call him once more.

This time, he opens his eyes, and stares at me, from top to down.

"Idhar aa."

"Ji?"

"Achchhe se sunayi nahi deta tujhe? Kaha na idhar aa."

His angry voice scares me, and I hurriedly start stepping towards him.

When I reach near the bed, he suddenly holds my hand and pulls me closer to him.

"Dhang se kapde pehenna nahi aata tujhe?"

Before I can ask him what he meant by that, he starts to properly adjust my pallu over my head.

"Aage se dhyan rahe. Tera badan dekhne ka haq sirf mera hai. Aur kisi ka nahi. Samjhi?"
