Kavita's POV
The next morning, after waking up, I climb down from the bed and walk to cupboard to take out a change of clothes to wear for the day.
After last night, it is a struggle for me to even walk properly, but I do it with painful hisses escaping my mouth and tears gathering in my eyes.
Once I take out the clothes, I head towards the door, but before stepping out of the room, I turn back once to glance at Sameerji.
Looking at his face, I recall how he behaved with me last night.
Everything that I recount causes the pain in my heart to grow, making it to be more than the pain all over my body.
Tears pour out of my eyes as I continue peering at Sameerji and recalling what he did last night.
I still am unable to believe that he gave me such punishment for such small mistake of mine.
'Par yakeen karna toh hoga mujhe. Aakhir kaar, iske alawa aur raasta hi kya hai mere paas? Aur yakeen karne ke saath saath yeh bhi khayal rakhna hoga ki aage se mujhse aisi galti naa ho.'
Thinking that, I wipe my tears, and walk out of the room.

"Bahu, aaj tere sasurji ne tere Babuji ko bulaya hai," Maaji tells me.
Her words make me so happy that stopping to chop the vegetables, I excitedly walk to where she was standing in the kitchen.
"Kya Maa aur Babuji dono aarahe hain, Maaji?"
She glares at me. "Maayke walon ke naam sunnte hi itni khushi ho gayi? Kya tujhe hum yahaan Maarte pit te hain? Agar yahaan rehna itna hi naa pasand hai, toh aaj apne Babuji ke saath apne ghar laut ja."
"Nahi, Maaji. Mera aisa matlab nahi tha. Main toh sirf-"
When Sameerji suddenly enters the kitchen, I abruptly stop speaking, and go back to resuming chopping the vegetables.
"Aisi kya baatein chal rahi thi ke mere aane se band ho gayin?" Sameerji asks.
"Arrey kuch nahi, beta. Main Bahu ko bata rahi thi ki aaj uske Sasurji ne uske Babuji ko bulaya hai. Yeh baat sunn ke itni khush hogayi ke mujhe aisa laga ki woh yahaan khush nahi hai. Jab maine usse puchha, tab uska jawaab sunn ke aisa mehsoos huwa ki mera waisa lagna shayad thik hi tha."
Hearing Maaji, I frown at her. "Nahi. Maine waisa nahi kaha tha. Aap galat samjh rahi hain, Maaji."
"Chup kar," Sameerji shouts at me. "Meri Maa se jubaan ladayegi tu? Itni himmat teri."
His loud voice scares me and I lower my head and immediately stop speaking.
"Ab kya kahun main, beta. Yeh toh jab se aayi hai, tab se mujhse lad rahi hai. Tu ghussa naa kare isliye tujhse kuch nahi kaha," Maaji says to Sameerji.
I am unable to fathom why she is saying such things when I have never done that.
When Sameerji does not say anything, I glance up at him, but hurriedly lower my eyes in fear when I see him glaring at me.
"Dekha, Sameer beta. Chor ke daari mein tinka. Dekh kaise apni galti Maan ke aankhein jhukaye khadi hai," Maaji says.
I wanted to ask her why she was lying, but I keep quiet. Because I know that no matter what I say, Sameerji will not believe me.
"Main yeh kehne aaya tha ki aaj kaam ke kaaran mujhe gaon se bahaar jana padega. Kal dopahar tak aajaunga," Sameerji says. "Aur Maa, aap chinta mat kijiye. Main lautke Kavita se baat karunga. Ab se woh kabhi bhi aapse unche sur mein baat nahi karegi."
