Third Person's POV
"Tu sach mein kuch nahi chhupa rahi hai, Smriti?" Sameer asks his sister, scrutinizing her expressions to know whether she really is speaking the truth or not.
After returning home, he had walked directly to Smriti's room, intending to question her some more about the night Kavita had ran away from home. But from the last fifteen minutes, she has only been denying helping Kavita.
"Maine jo jo kaha sab sach hai, bhaiyya. Aur main kaise Kavita bhabhi ko aazad kar sakti hoon jab main khud thik se chal tak nahi paati?"
Sameer sighs, unable to fully believe Smriti because of what that villager had told him.
"Unka chehra toh maine nahi dekha, sahabji, lekin kad kanthi aur chaal dhaal se Smritiji ke devarji lag rahe the. Unko kahin baar yahaan aate jaate dekha hai kyunki woh yahin ki paas wali jameen, jisme woh jhopdi hai, woh kharidne ki baat karne aate the," that man had said, which had immediately risen his suspicion.
It had seemed odd to him when Anirudh had suddenly said he would be going abroad because of a job. Odd because whenever he talked with Anirudh, he used to say that he had no interest in going abroad anymore and wanted to do his business in this country itself.
But then, suddenly he got a job out of nowhere and had to leave in a day for that.
Although odd, he had also felt relieved because he had not liked him staying in his house ever since he went out with Kavita. He had many a times noticed him stare at Kavita with a soft look on his face.
No matter how much he had wanted to shout at him for doing so and even throw him out of the house, he knew he could not do it. After all, he was from his sister's in-laws house.
That is why, the news of him leaving had caused such relief to him that he never questioned the oddities and did not even think about it.
But now, after that villager's statement, the things have started to click in his mind.
"Tera devar bilayat pohonch gaya? Baat hoti rehti hai usse?" Sameer asks Smriti.
"Aap abhi abhi Kavita bhabhi ke baare mein sawaal kar rahe the. Aur ab achanak devarji ke baare mein puchh rahe hain. Kya ho gaya hai aapko, bhaiyya?"
Sameer smirks, noticing flustered look on Smriti's face. "Jo puchh raha hoon uska jawaab de. Pohonch gaya tera devar bilayat?"
"Haan. Devarji pohonch gaye hain. Mujhse toh unki baat nahi huyi hai, par Pawanji bata rahe the ki devarji ne bilayat mein kaam shuru bhi kardiya hai."
He wants to confront his sister, shout at her and get all the information out, but he knows his sister and how stubborn she is.
'Kuch aur hi raasta apnanaa hoga,' he thinks, standing from the chair.
"Thik hai. Tu aaram kar. Jyaada chinta mat karna. Bachche ke liye sahi nahi hoga," he says, smiling at her. "Waise dai maa se baat huyi? Kab tak bachcha hoga tujhe?"
She frowns at the question, looking strangely at me for a few seconds, before answering. "Haan. Woh unhone kaha hai ki aane wale hafte mein kabhi bhi ho sakta hai."
"Yeh toh khushi ki baat hai. Apna dhyan rakh."
Saying that, Sameer walks out of Smriti's room, a plan already cooking in his mind.
