We escaped from there—as you know, business talks bore us to death. Now we’re walking toward my home. Actually, he offered to drive me, but I wanted to spend some more time with him. So, we chose to walk.“Can we sit for a bit?” I asked, giving him my best puppy eyes—making sure I looked extra cute and adorable. He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused, since walking had been my idea.
“My legs are hurting because of these heels,” I pouted, plopping down on a nearby bench. After a second, he joined me. The cool night breeze whispered softly against my skin, and the moonlight shimmered above us. Sitting there beside him, watching the sky—it felt like a dream I’d lived in my head a thousand times.
“Pumpkin,” he said suddenly, breaking my thoughts, “remove your heels and give them to me.”
“What? Why?” I asked, confused.
“Just do as I say,” he growled playfully.
Reluctantly, I slipped them off and handed them to him. To my surprise, he made me stand on the bench, wrapped his coat around me, and turned his back.
He was going to carry me.
“I’m too heavy,” I said quickly. “You can’t carry me all that way.”
“You think I’m not capable of carrying my girl? Even if you gained ten more pounds, I’d still carry you,” he said with a possessive smirk, stressing the words my girl. I hesitated, but eventually gave in. Who could resist this devil?
Then, of course, my mind came up with the perfect way to tease him.
“Ronnie!” I called sweetly.
“Don’t call me that,” he groaned, already annoyed.
“Why not?”
“Because every time you call me that, you end up doing something crazy,” he muttered, and I smirked. “I have a challenge for you,” I teased. “It’s okay if you don’t want me to join you for that trekking trip…”
He stopped walking. “Wait—how do you know about that?” he asked, shocked.
“When I was looking for you earlier, I ran into Zander and Liam. They told me. So? Ready for the challenge?”
“Bloody traitors,” he mumbled. “I told them I’d ask you myself. Are they even my friends?”
I laughed. “If you can carry me all the way home without dropping me, I’ll come. But—” I leaned close and whispered in his ear, “—there’s a twist.”
His eyebrow arched. I started tickling him.
“HANNAH!” he shouted, laughing. “You’re crazy—hahaha—you’ll fall!”
It had been years since I saw him laugh like that—so unfiltered, so real. He looked too good when he laughed. My heart skipped.
“What’s the point of a challenge if it’s not fun, Aaron baby?” I teased again.
His name lingered on my lips like a secret I loved keeping.
After thirty minutes of teasing and tickling, we finally reached home. I had to admit—this man was stronger than I’d thought. He carried a 140-pound girl all the way, with all the nonsense I pulled, without once letting me down.
He carefully placed me on the couch. “So… you’re coming, Pumpkin,” he said with that irresistible smirk.
I hesitated. Would Dad give me permission? I already knew the answer. If he found out I was going with Aaron, that too for three days, he’d definitely say no.
Just then, Aaron cleared his throat. I looked at him.
“I want to get changed,” I mumbled and was about to get up, but he suddenly caged me between his arms, leaning in close.
“Already imagining us together in your wild thoughts?” he whispered huskily in my ear.
A shiver ran through me. My heart raced. My cheeks burned.
“Dream on,” I replied, though my voice sounded like a shy whisper.
This man will be the death of me, I thought, trying to catch my breath. But just then—the front door creaked open.
Startled, he tried to move quickly, but slipped—and his lips accidentally brushed against mine.
My world collapsed.
He straightened up, awkwardly scratched his head, and mumbled, “I’ll pick you and Emma up at 6 PM tomorrow,” before dashing out like a teenage boy caught sneaking out.
“Why is your face so red?” my sister asked as she walked in.
“Oh—uh—it’s this dress. I’m feeling hot,” I stammered. “I’m going to change.”
She followed me into my room.
“You really think Aaron Kingston will choose you?” she snapped suddenly. “Don’t forget how much his mother hates us. She doesn’t even like stepping into our home, and you think she’ll accept you for her son?”
“I don’t care about his mother,” I shouted back. “I know Aaron will never leave me. When I look into his eyes, I see a love I’ve never seen in anyone else—not even in my own family.”
She sat beside me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Even if Aaron chooses you over his parents… would he choose you over his money?” she asked softly. “You know the way he lives—lavish, carefree. If he leaves it all behind for you, then what? Will he survive it? Will you?”
My heart trembled.
Mind: He spends millions like candy. You think he’ll give that up? Please.
Heart: He would choose you, even if it meant losing everything.
And that’s all I needed to hear.
I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled, brushing my fingers across my lips—the very lips he’d just kissed, whether by accident or fate. A thrill ran through me, weakening my knees. If one accidental kiss felt this powerful… I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to be completely his.
My heart, my soul, and every inch of me… would one day belong only to him.
After changing, I convinced Emma to come on the trip and somehow managed to get Dad’s permission too. I packed my bag, heart fluttering with excitement, and hugged my pillow tight.
“Tomorrow’s going to be fun,” I whispered before falling asleep, smiling.
