Liam's P.O.VI woke up feeling thirsty, and noticed Aaron still hadn’t returned. That man has more ego than ego itself—yeah, I know that doesn’t make sense, but who cares? I decided to go look for him before he died of cold outside.
First, I called Zander. After the third ring, he finally picked up.
“If it’s not important, I swear I’ll kill you,” he growled in his sleepy voice.
Living with Aaron has clearly rubbed off on him.
“Is Aaron with you?” I asked.
“No! Now keep the freaking phone and let me sleep!” he shouted and ended the call.
I walked out to search and passed by Hannah’s room. Maybe Aaron was with her? I knocked once—no response. Before I could knock again, the door opened, making me flinch a little. I wasn’t expecting anyone.
I came face to face with Emma… who was crying.
“Why are you here? Can’t you let me cry in peace too?” she snapped.
What’s with everyone shouting tonight? And why the hell was this demon crying?
“Hey, what happened? Why are you crying? Do you need something?” I asked, genuinely concerned. I usually don’t care when girls cry, but seeing her in tears… it hurt.
“None of your business,” she said coldly and was about to shut the door. I managed to slip in before she could.
“Look, I’m already annoyed. Don’t test my patience—please leave,” she said.
This girl doesn’t deserve my concern… but whatever. As I turned to leave, I glanced at the bed. Empty.
“By the way, where’s Hannah?” I asked casually.
That one question broke her. She started crying even harder.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you—I’ll leave—”
“No,” she interrupted, stopping me.
“I had a fight with Hannah... and this time, I hurt her really badly. I saw it in her eyes—she was heartbroken. She left crying, and I didn’t even stop her...” she said between sobs.
“Hey, Emma, calm down.” I guided her to the couch and gave her some water. Once she relaxed a bit, I asked, “Can you tell me what exactly happened? So I can understand and maybe help?”
She explained everything. When she showed me the ring Hannah had bought to propose to Aaron, and how she’d thrown it away, I was stunned.
Aaron still keeps every tiny thing Hannah’s ever given him. From pencils to chocolate wrappers. If he knew she’d bought him a ring, he’d be on cloud nine.
“I’m a terrible friend, right?” she whispered.
I didn’t think demons had hearts. Guess I was wrong.
“You’re not a terrible friend,” I said gently. “You care about her. You’re scared she’ll get hurt, and that’s valid. But trust me—Aaron is perfect for Hannah. He protects her, takes care of her, and most importantly, he loves her like crazy.”
I pulled out my phone. “Wait, I’ll show you something.”
I showed her videos of Aaron being his hopelessly-in-love self.
She finally smiled. Seeing that made me feel lighter too.
“But what about Aaron’s mom?” she asked. “Will she accept them? We both know how much she looks down on Hannah and her family… because of their status. What if she causes trouble?”
“We all know she’ll stir drama,” I admitted. “But it’s our job—as their friends—to protect them. And as Aaron’s friend, I promise you, Hannah is in safe hands. I won’t let anyone ruin their happiness. Especially not Mrs. Kingston.”
“Pinky promise?” she asked, raising her little finger.
“Pinky promise,” I said with a smile. We sealed it.
As I stood to leave, she asked, “Can we go find Hannah? I’m really worried about her.”
Right. I’d come out searching for Aaron and totally forgot. I told her Aaron was missing too, and explained how he left the room earlier, angry.
We stepped outside and began searching together. I noticed she wasn’t wearing a scarf or coat, and was visibly shivering. I took off my coat and handed it to her. She refused at first, but gave in after I insisted.
A few minutes later, we found them.
There they were—sleeping on the sand, holding each other tightly. Aaron had wrapped her in his coat, making sure she stayed warm.
“I’m happy for her,” Emma whispered. “She finally found her peace in the chaos.”
I just nodded in response, feeling an unfamiliar warmth settle in my chest.
We returned to our rooms quietly and slept peacefully for the rest of the night.
