Hannah’s P.O.V

I slowly opened my eyes, blinking away the brightness of sunlight pouring in through the window.

As I sat up on my bed, grumbling about Monday mornings, a sudden memory hit me—and my grumbles turned into squeals. Today is my first day of college!

I jumped on my bed, dancing like a maniac.

Why? Because I’m about to surprise my best friend—we both applied to the same university, but she has no idea I got in!

She had been so upset when I told her what Dad wanted: for me to work instead of continuing college because he couldn’t afford education for both me and my sister.

She pleaded with me to try convincing him again, and I did. But when he refused, I made up my mind. I told him I’d take up part-time jobs and fund my own education.

At first, he was furious. He even ignored me for days. Especially when he found out I applied to NYU—New York University, one of the most prestigious (and expensive) colleges in the city.

But after a lot of begging, and after showing him that I’d already been accepted, he finally gave in. Of course, not without throwing a few taunts about how stubborn and immature I am.

Sometimes I want to scream—why do I have to fight for everything, while my sister gets whatever she wants without even asking?

No matter what I do, I’m always the “difficult one” in this family.

But whatever. I’m not letting that ruin my mood today.

Oh no! I forgot to text my best friend last night. She's going to kill me!

Ugh! Where’s my phone? I always keep it on my bedside table…

Shit! I must have left it on the dining table after Dad yelled at me for staying over at Em’s place without asking him.

I’m 18 now—why do I still need permission for everything?

I HATE MY LIFE.

Anyway… first things first—grab the phone, take a shower, and get ready for college!

Just as I picked up my phone, it started buzzing.

Em calling.

As soon as I picked up, she unleashed a hurricane of words:
“WHERE WERE YOU? Did you reach home safely? Why didn’t you text me? Why didn’t you answer my calls? Are you on mute!?”

“Em, breathe, please,” I said, rolling my eyes. “You’re going to make me deaf one day.”

“And for your questions—I don’t have time to answer.”

“So get ready. I’m coming to pick you up. As promised, I’ll drop you at your college. Bye, Em!”

“Hey! Ann! Don’t make me late because of you!” she yelled again, probably cracking my eardrum.

Thank God she’s not a singer, or the entire world would’ve been deaf by now.

“Just open the door, darling,” I muttered, hanging up.

Aunt greeted me at the door with a warm smile. “Hello, sweetheart! How are you?”

“I’m great, Aunt! Where’s Uncle?”

“He’s at the gym, working out with his friends,” she said, slightly surprised at my morning energy.

“Wow, still maintaining his charm, huh? No wonder you’re still so beautiful,” I teased with a wink.

She blushed and laughed, her face turning a lovely shade of pink.

I adore their relationship—they’re the perfect example of eternal love. Even after all these years, they still act like teenage sweethearts.

“Okay Aunt, we’re heading out! Tell Uncle I said hi, and remind him to keep hitting the gym—after all, you need encouragement to stay this gorgeous!” I giggled, pulling her cheeks playfully.

“Bye Aunt! Or your daughter will yell at me again for being late,” I said with a quick hug before dashing off.
