Liam’s POV
This damn girl actually plans to marry Lucas Black?
Let’s see how far she gets with that.
I slammed the brakes outside The Plaza and stormed in.
“Hello, may I know which room Lucas Black and Emma Carson are staying in?” I asked the receptionist, trying to keep my tone calm.
“I’m sorry, sir, but we can’t disclose that information as per hotel policy,” she responded politely.
“I’ll ask the other staff,” Hannah offered and walked away.
I leaned in closer to the receptionist. “Look, I know this is confidential. But the girl inside… she might be in danger or… cheating on me,” I said, letting fake tears pool in my eyes. “I love her. I can’t lose her to someone like him. Please… save my love today, and maybe someone will save yours tomorrow.”
Bingo.
She looked around cautiously, scribbled the room number and passcode, and handed them to me with a whisper. “Good luck.”
We rushed upstairs. I entered the code and we stepped into the suite.
Empty.
Just as we were about to turn back, we heard a glass shatter from one of the rooms. Emma’s cry followed immediately.
We sprinted toward the sound and pushed the door open.
What I saw inside made my blood boil.
Lucas Black had his hand twisted in Emma’s hair, forcing her to drink alcohol.
As soon as he saw us, he sneered. “Well, well, look who’s here. The great Liam Smith.”
He yanked Emma’s face toward me.
I usually run from crying girls, but seeing her cry—my Emma—tore me apart.
“Let her go!” Hannah shouted.
Lucas raised a brow. “What’s this? A swap offer? Should I take her instead?”
He stepped closer. “But what if I want both?”
Before he could say another word, I landed a punch square on his jaw.
He retaliated with a blow to my stomach.
We went at it—fists flying, fueled by rage.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Hannah helping Emma escape.
We fought until we were both exhausted, gasping for breath.
“I don’t care if you two are engaged or not,” I said, voice rough, eyes locked on him.
“She’s my girlfriend. Touch her again and I’ll make sure you can’t touch anyone ever again.”
I paused and added, “And about the project? We’re canceling it. Queens Corporation will invest in her uncle’s company instead.”
Without another word, I scooped Emma into my arms bridal-style and walked out with Hannah.
Once in the car, I gently placed Emma in the backseat. After Hannah got in, I floored the gas and headed straight to my house.
I carried Emma into my room, tucked her into my bed, and turned to Hannah. “I’ll get some warm clothes from Mom’s closet. She has a fever too—I’ll call the doctor.”
I called the doctor, grabbed the clothes, handed them to Hannah, and rushed to the kitchen.
I cooked some porridge, chicken soup, and fried rice for all of us. The aroma filled the house with comfort.
“Liam, we should leave,” Hannah said softly. “It’s already 7. You know how strict Dad has become since the accident.”
“I’ve already informed your parents,” I said, placing bowls on the table. “I’ll drop both of you. But first—dinner. Please sit.”
I looked at Emma. “Eat more. You need your strength.”
I could feel her eyes on me, but I ignored it and quietly finished my meal. After doing the dishes, I dropped Hannah off first.
Now it was just me and Emma in the car.
“I’m sorry… for what I said that day,” I muttered. “I didn’t mean it. I was out of line. As for the investment—Dad is ready. And Lucas? He won’t ever bother you again. I promise.”
She didn’t reply.
We reached her house. She got down, then turned back.
“Wait here.”
A few minutes later, she returned with a first-aid box.
Without saying a word, she opened it and gently cleaned the cuts on my hand and lip, dabbing ointment on them.
I hissed at the sting.
“If you can’t handle pain,” she said quietly, “don’t play the hero.”
I smiled. At least she was talking to me.
“Sorry,” I murmured.
“Thank you for everything,” she said, her eyes softer now. “Hannah told me everything. I’m ready to date you. Send the contract. I’ll sign it tomorrow.”
And just like that, she walked inside.
I stayed in the car, heart pounding, watching the door close behind her—knowing that this… this was just the beginning.
