"Hey Cassie, it's Amber... listen, it's been like weeks since we last talked.  I'm not sure what I did but I miss you so much.  Call me, okay?"

"Jessica?  Hey, it's Amber, how are you?  I haven't heard from you in a while.  I was wondering if maybe we could get together this weekend or something...can you meet me at Starbucks on Saturday for our usual mocha?"

"Amber, I'm so sorry, but I have plans - can't.  Gotta go."  I threw the phone acrossed the room watching as it bounced against the dresser and fell neatly onto a pile of laundry littering the floor then screamed loudly into my pillows, a rejected, miserable mess.

It wasn't always like this. The silence, the rejection, the isolation; this is all new - to me anyway.  

I used to be "the girl next door" who everybody loved, popular and wanted by many, captain of the cheerleading squad and volleyball team, talented cellist.  I had an amazing life ahead of myself, scholarships to  almost any school I could dream up and of all things, an amazingly smoking hot varsity football player boyfriend.

But that was before the accident....
