Chapter 27
Zayn's POV
On the way to my flat I turned on the radio. I had forgotten to put the volume down so a song by Drake blasted off the speakers.
I saw Helen wince from the corner of my eyes; I didn't know if it was because it was loud or because she didn't like rap but I decided to take the safe choice. I started changing stations until I came across a familiar tune, "Secrets" by One Republic. I decided that was a better option, and I relaxed when I started hearing Helen humming the music of the song.
"Til all my sleeves are stained red
From all the truth that I've said
Come by it honestly I swear
Thought you saw me wink, no
I've been on the brink, so
Tell me what you want to hear
Something that'll light those years
Sick of all the insincere
I'm gonna give all my secrets away".
I was singing along to the tune but stopped when I felt eyes on me.
"You've got a nice voice" I heard her say.
"Thanks" I said, feeling uncomfortable. I never let anyone hear me sing... guess it slipped my mind this time.
I glanced sideways at Helen and found her smiling, dimples forming at each side of her moon shaped mouth. I had never seen such a beautiful smile...
On that disturbing note, I placed my attention back on the road, just in time to stop at a red light.
I need to stop thinking that way about her. I cannot have those type of feelings for her. Ever. It would be a disaster if I ever did.
Once the light turned green I hit the gas and drove the familiar route to my apartment. Once we reached the place I parked in the usual spot and I got out. I walked around my car to find Helen struggling to open the door. I laughed and unlocked her door and then opened it for her.
"Ha! Funny!" she pouted, when she found me laughing.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know it was locked" I apologized smoothly and she frowned at me and then at the building in front of us.
"Where are we?" she asked, slight confusion hinted in her tone.
"My place" I said with a shrug before taking her hand and guiding her inside. We had to take the elevator to the third floor, and it was silent while we reached it.
Once we stepped off the "metal cage" like one of my best friends called it, I walked down the hallways to the only door on this floor.
"This whole floor is yours?" Helen questioned.
I looked down at her and smirked.
"More or less" I said slowly.
"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked with a scowl. I didn't like seeing that expression on her face so I told her the truth.
"I own the whole building, but I only took this floor for myself and I rent the other apartments" I finished it of with a shrug and I looked away at her surprised expression.
"So it's safe to say you've got money and a very comfortable life?" she suggested.
"My job pays well" was all I replied before unlocking the door to my flat.
