The Scorch is literal hell. From Cranks, to the elements, to the loneliness I feel everyday, I hate it. Sometimes, I wish I hadn't escaped the Maze that day. Now everyone's probably back at the Spring safe and sound. In the meantime, I've spent over a month trying not to lose my mind. It may not sound like much, but if you go back over the list you'll understand why it feels like an eternity.

The thing is I've technically met people though. It's just that they aren't allowed to stay. Somehow, WCKD workers have made their way here before. Unfortunately for them they never come out.

Sighing and trying to forget about the things you do to survive out here, I bunkered down once night fell. Carefully adjusting my blankets and double checking that every single entrance was blocked, I sat by the cage and got ready for a disturbed sleep.

Now I do happen to be near the Cranks, but as long as I don't turn on the lights or give them any notion that I'm here when I don't have something for them it's fine. Plus, in a way I'm sort of like their owner. As long as I give them what they want of course. Besides, this place also has what I need in it. I've found a way of life here. It may be the worst life there is, but I'm breathing. That's all I can really ask for.

As I was getting comfortable, or as comfortable as I could get, I heard voices. Carefully standing up and hiding behind a corner I grabbed my crowbar and was ready to swing.

No WCKD workers are taking me today. I've already figured out how to deal with them. Well, more of how to get rid of them. I knock them out and give them to the Cranks. I'm done being a prisoner.

As they rounded a corner I swung it directly in their face. They screamed as I brought it down again. His friend tried to grab it from my hand, but I was quicker and tossed him on his back. Just as I was ready to bring it over my skull another one pulled it out of my hands. I turned around and was ready for whatever was to come, only for them to drop my weapon with a clank.

Breathing heavily as my eyes adjusted and the guy under me groaned in pain, I realized that I knew who this was.

"Aris?"I asked in disbelief.

"We thought you were dead,"He blurted out.

"Nice assumption there. Well I'm not."

"Can someone tell us who this girl is?"a kid spoke up.

"And why she decided to hit Minho with a bat,"another boy with a bit of an accent mumbled, checking on his friend.

"It's a crowbar,"I corrected.

"That makes a difference,"He mumbled.

"Actually, it does. Bats work better when you're dealing with a Crank. Maybe a small group even. Crowbars are perfect for humans and bashing their skulls in quicker,"I explained.

"So you were just going to bash his skull in? And who are you?"another boy kept interegating.

"Someone. Speaking of that though, I should probably make sure I didn't hurt your friend too bad. Just don't turn on any lights or do anything until I say so,"I directed.

"Why?"

"Just trust her,"Aris suggested. Without waiting to see if they would say anything more I headed to my area to pick up any medical supplies. After all, I gave him quite a hit.

Thankfully, I hadn't damaged the kid as bad as I could have. While his nose was definitely broken there didn't seem to be anything extreme. He had all his teeth and his brains were intact. In my book that's a pretty light injury.
