The genin were sucked into a mass of darkness, pushing through a black space which had several tentacle-like arms shooting out towards them.
"Naruto!!" he heard Sakura call out his name.
Her right arm had been grabbed by some of the sidewall tentacles. She had reached for a kunai to try and cut through the tentacled mass but the kunai on its own was not enough to do much. They were enclosing around her body, trying to suck her in.
"Chain up," Shikamaru ordered. "Lee, on Choji's back!"
The genin locked their arms together, in an order from their unfolded diamond formation: Kiba, Shikamaru, Shino, Naruto, Hinata, Tenten, Choji with Lee on his back, Ino, and finally Neji. Both Byakugan users had their abilities activated.
"Shift to diamond!"
With that order, Kiba let go of Shikamaru's arm as the latter and Shino grabbed his feet. This went down the line until the original diamond form had been achieved.

"At all times, make sure someone is holding on to you!" Shikamaru ordered. He assessed their situation, taking a few moments to take stock of his surroundings. "We're moving faster than at the walls. Which means we will drift past her soon."
"What happens if we don't get her?" Ino asked, but Shikamaru didn't answer.
