Haruki Noya paced impatiently across the brightly lit blue-walled research space where the Doctor worked. The room resembled a hospital lobby, Noya separated from all the important spaces by a nurse-manned front desk, several cabinets lining the walls, and what looked like a large metal detector keeping her away. She walked within the confined area by the door, her every movement followed closely by three identical looking men whose heads followed her up and down the room. A red-haired fnurse came to the pacing Noya, standing right in her path to stop her.
"The Doctor doesn't like it when visitors pace in the lab. It makes his patients anxious," she told Noya who growled, folding her arms.
"Well tell Tatsuo that if he'd still like to keep his job, he will let his boss in instead of having his annoying toys hold me hostage," Noya threatened.
The nurse's eyes glazed over for a second, Noya tapping her foot impatiently. The nurse's irises returned. "The Doctor will see you now, but asks that you refrain from throwing a tantrum as he's in the middle of a delicate operation."
Noya's jaw dropped. "Refrain from throwing a tantrum?" She growled. "When I get my hands on that Tatsuo...." She looked up to the nurse. "Let me in, now!"
"Sure. Just follow our standard security procedures and you can go through," the nurse told her. Noya's jaw clenched tight. The nurse grabbed her hand and placed it forcefully on the biometric pad next to the detection device. "Please declare any recording and communication devices."
"None!" Noya stated curtly.
The nurse turned robotically to observe the biometric scanner which turned green after a few seconds. She turned back to Noya. "Are you who you say you are? And do you have any malicious intention towards the Doctor?"
"I'd like to give him a piece of my mind right about now...." Noya growled.
The nurse turned to the scanner which turned green after a longer wait. She turned to one of the three men guarding the door. "Sadam #1, please escort Lady Haruki to the Doctor's operating desk."
One of the men walked up next to Noya. "This way ma'am," it said, leading the way into an open floor as Noya followed begrudgingly. It stopped abruptly, Noya, almost bumping into it, and placed its hands flatly on the open air, revealing a thinly veiled illusory wall which had a door in it. Its hands activated the door, flinging it open as it ushered in Noya Haruki.
Despite having the same colored walls, the room on the other side of the door was set up like a dentist's operation room, a man hovering over a young patient in green leotard. An annoyed Noya stomped her way towards the man noticing the cameras and the big screen in the corner. Before she could reach the Doctor, Sadam 1 blocked her with his frame, spreading his arms to shield him from her view.
"Stand down Sadam #1. Let Lady Haruki through," a masculine voice said. Sadam #1 moved out of the way, earning a well-deserved glare from Noya who continued to the man. "Your leg and arm should be good as new," Noya heard him say to the boy on the table. He turned to her.
Yogi Tatsuo was a slender dark haired man who stood just under six feet tall. His unkempt hair slightly obscured the large horizontal slit across his forehead, just above the large black shades that covered his eyes. He reached for a walking stick next to his operating table, moving out of the way as his patient stood up.
"Meet Rock Lee. He's been very delightful company," he informed Noya.
"He's one of the kids from the beach, right? He tried to flee with the girls," Noya noted, staring skeptically at him.
"That's because Lee here was still recovering from crushing injuries to his left arm and leg. As his doctor, I'm happy he made the wise choice."
Noya stared at the boy who held his tongue. "You need to give better instructions to your guard dogs."
"Ah well, I find the automata operate best when their instructions are kept as simple as possible," the Doctor informed her. "These are remnants of souls after all, and should be treated with respect."
Noya scoffed. "As your boss, I should be on the exception list."
The Doctor chuckled. "There is no exception list Lady Haruki. Even you don't trust yourself, so why would I? My research is too valuable to leave anything to chance." He turned to Sadam #1, pointing to a rack of cuffs hanging from the wall. "Sadam #1, be a dear and hand over the dilatant fiber cuffs."
Sadam #1 rushed over to the wall to grab a pair of plain looking handcuffs.
"So Lee, where are you from?" Noya asked, stretching out her hand to shake his.
"The Leaf Village," he stated as he reached out to shake her hand.
Noya smiled, yelping as the Doctor's cane hit her hand away. "This is not an interrogation room. My patient needs rest."
"I'm just trying to get to know him," Noya argued, pulling her hand away, though she stepped closer to Lee. "He looks fine to me. You seemed to have done a good job," she said as she through her arm around his neck. "Tell me... how does one crush their arm and leg? That must have been one pretty nasty fall."
"Um..." Lee started.
"There will be none of that..." Tatsuo muttered, using his cane to try and keep them apart. Sadam #1 arrived with the requested cuffs, which Noya took from him, gesturing for Lee to bring his hands forward.
"Must have been a long trip from the Leaf Village to Musutafu," she noted as she placed the cuffs on one wrist. "What brings you here?" She placed the cuff on the other wrist.
"Sadam #1, it seems that Lady Haruki would like to be removed from my theatre," Tatsuo noted.
"Fine! Fine!! I'm done with the questions," Noya said, holding her hands up and taking a step away from Lee. She turned to the Doctor. "No special cuffs for this one?"
"Oh that would be completely overkill for Lee as he's quirkless," Tatsuo stated, his eyes staring past where he believed Noya to be. "His bones and muscles are very strong for one his age, so strength suppressing cuffs are more his speed."
Noya smiled, throwing her arm around the Doctor and pulling him in. "Ah, your intellect never ceases to amaze me. Anything else interesting I need to know?"
He pulled away, attempting a couple of times to hit her legs with his cane though she moved out of the way.
"Sadam #1, get Lady Haruki a pair of gloves," he ordered, turning in Noya's direction. "We wouldn't want her catching any germs from our lab."
Sadam #1 retrieved a pair of latex gloves from a nearby table and handed them over to Noya who put them on without resisting.
"I do need to build new models for my quirk suppression cuffs though. The current model has the nasty drowsiness into knockout effect which is not always ideal. And I had to give the only version I had to the police to subdue the ammokinetic kid."
"Fine! I'll add that to next quarter's budget," Noya agreed.
"Next quarter? But...but..." Tatsuo pinched his eyes shut, cutting his thought short. "Yes, Merumi? Uh huh... Uh huh... Oh."
"What is it?"
Tatsuo gestured to Sadam #1, who turned on the screen to show Endeavor in their lobby. His arms were folded and he wore a mean glare on his face. "It seems the Number 2 hero wants to see me and won't take no for an answer," Tatsuo told Noya.
"What does he want?"
Tatsuo shrugged. "Merumi made it clear that he was not happy."
Noya removed her gloves, handing them over to Sadam #1. "Let him in. Let's see what brings Number 2 into the lion's den."
