Becky's POV
I woke up in my room, and the first thing I saw was my grandmother sitting beside my bed.
"Oh, thank goodness you're awake, Becky! You've been sleeping all night," she said, gently stroking my head.
As I came fully awake, memories of what happened flooded back— the monster, and the master...
I looked down at my hands and saw that they were bandaged.
"Gran...dma...mas...ter..." I stammered, struggling to find my voice, fear taking over me.
"Shh, I know," she said, pulling me into a comforting hug.
I began to cry, remembering those red eyes and sharp teeth. The memory alone made me shudder.
And what made it even harder to accept was that Grandma already knew what the master was...
"She's a vampire, Becky. But she's a good vampire; she doesn't harm us," Grandma reassured me.
A vampire. I'd only heard of them in myths and legends. I never imagined they were real.
"Why did she call me her 'mate'?" I asked, feeling a mix of confusion and dread.
"'Mate' to a vampire means they're your soulmate," Grandma explained. "They have a special power that helps them recognize their mate."
So, that means I'm the master's mate...or soulmate?
But...what does that even mean for me?
Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Louise entered.
"Mrs. Armstrong, the master requests you and your husband in her office," she announced.
Grandma nodded, excused herself from me, and told me to rest.
But curiosity got the best of me. I needed to know what they were talking about. Quietly, I followed Grandma, determined to listen in on their meeting.
The door to the office was slightly ajar, just enough for me to hear their conversation.
"Mr. Armstrong, I assume you're both aware that your granddaughter is my mate. I'm here to claim her," the master said firmly.
Claim me? What did that even mean? Was I a possession?
"Of course, Master. We understand, but Becky is so young. She's barely seventeen," Grandpa replied, his tone cautious.
"Don't worry," the master said calmly. "I won't consummate our bond until she's eighteen. I'll wait, and then I'll marry her."
Marry me? No! I can't marry a monster!
"Oh, thank you for your understanding, Master," Grandpa answered, sounding relieved.
"It's nothing. But from now on, I want Becky to stay on the second floor. Mrs. Armstrong, please prepare the room next to mine for her and arrange for a maid to move her things," the master instructed.
"Yes, Master. I'll see to it right away," Grandma replied.
"Has she woken up?" the master asked.
"Yes, but I think she's fallen asleep again from exhaustion," Grandma said.
I didn't listen to the rest. Quietly, I slipped back to my room, heart racing. I have to escape.
I lay down, pretending to be asleep, and began to plan. I needed to get out of this mansion, leave this town, and head back to the city. My best friend, Iron, might be able to help me find a job and a place to stay.
There was no way I was marrying a vampire. I shivered, remembering how she killed that man, her cold eyes, her strength. Just thinking about it made my skin crawl.
When Grandma and the maid were busy setting up my new room, I'd make my escape.
I knew there was a bus stop near the town gate; maybe I could catch a bus out of here.
As soon as Grandma left my room, I quickly packed my backpack. I took some cash and savings I had in the bank, some clothes, and a few essentials.
It didn't matter if I couldn't take much with me. Once I was safe, I could buy some cheap clothes in the city. Anything was better than staying here.
