Becky's POV
A soft tap on my shoulder pulls me from sleep. I open my eyes slowly, only to find my grandmother standing beside me, worry etched across her face.
"Grandma..." I murmur, wrapping my arms around her. Her concern is palpable, filling the room like a heavy cloud.
"Don't ever do that again, Becky," she says, voice trembling. "You nearly gave me a heart attack. Just... accept your destiny. In time, you'll learn to love her. The master is kind, and she would never hurt you."
Kind? My chest tightens at the word. How can she say that?
If she's really so kind, why does she bite me? Why does she keep threatening me?
I hate her. If she were really kind, she'd let me go. I wouldn't be trapped here.
Grandma gently instructs me to freshen up and come downstairs, mentioning that breakfast is ready and that "the master" is waiting for me. I have no appetite, but Grandma insists, her gentle push unyielding.
I clean up and dress in something simple, staring at the clothes in the closet. Everything I own is there, along with some new pieces. She must have bought them for me. Despite her earlier threats, she's left my door unlocked. I suppose she trusts I won't try to run again.
I make my way downstairs, my heart pounding as I approach the dining area. She's there, seated at the head of the table, her gaze sharp as it lands on me. I feel a flash of fear and look down.
"Come sit here, little one," she says, patting the chair beside her.
I sit, too afraid to disobey, and stare at the plate in front of me. She serves me eggs, bacon, and rice, an almost overwhelming amount of food. I feel too nauseated to eat, but she notices my hesitation.
"Eat, or I'll punish you... or maybe," she says with a wicked smile, "I'll just have to eat you right here."
A shiver runs down my spine, and I hurriedly pick up my fork and begin to eat. She watches me, a slight smirk on her face.
"Good." She then serves herself some rice and bacon, surprising me. So, vampires eat regular food, too?
Her eyes soften for a moment as she reaches over and feeds me a bite, holding the fork to my lips until I open my mouth. I comply, too afraid to do otherwise, and eat in silence.
"Do you want to go into the city?" she asks suddenly.
I blink, surprised. "You'd take me there?"
She nods, and a spark of hope ignites within me—I might even get to see Irin. I nod eagerly.
"Good. But promise me you won't try to escape." Her eyes hold mine, serious and unyielding.
I nod again, feeling a glimmer of freedom, and my spirits lift. I manage to finish the food on my plate, spurred by the thought of leaving the house.
"Once you're done, go get ready," she says, giving me a once-over. "Wear something that covers more. I don't want to share what's mine."
I nod obediently and head upstairs, selecting a pair of jeans and a modest shirt. I stash a bit of money in my pocket in case I need it. Soon after, she knocks at my door, calling me downstairs.
A sleek black car is waiting by the front entrance. I assumed we'd have a driver, but she slides into the driver's seat herself after opening my door. Her demeanor softens for a moment, her gestures gentler than before.
She drives in silence, and I watch the scenery passing by, trying to memorize every curve in the road, every landmark. If I can make this trip a few times, maybe I can learn the route... maybe I can find a way out of this.
For now, I'll play along. I'll go with the flow, but I won't forget my goal.
