Becky's POV

I lacked appetite, feeling full and content. When Grandma called me for dinner, I pretended to sleep, not wanting to disturb my peaceful evening. After ensuring she wasn't around, I removed the blanket and turned on my lampshade, casting a warm glow over my cozy room.

Master wasn't home; she'd arrived an hour earlier, her presence still lingering in the air. I recalled our earlier encounter, her smile and gentle touch etched in my memory.

Flashback:

I organized my school things, subject by subject, and hid the borrowed book in my drawer, eager to read it later. Master entered, asking about my first day with genuine interest. "It's good," I said, smiling, feeling a sense of comfort in her presence.

She tapped my head, noticing my reaction, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'll be gone for a two-day trip abroad," she announced, her expression turning serious.

I felt a pang of sadness, wondering why I felt this way. Was I really concerned about her leaving?

"Don't worry, time flies faster," she said, as if reading my mind. I shrugged, looking at her, trying to hide my emotions. "Take care, Master."

She kissed my forehead, her lips soft and gentle. The kiss moved to my nose, then my lips, sending shivers down my spine. "I'll miss you, little one."

I blushed, unprepared for her affection, but secretly enjoyed it. "Can I have a taste?" she asked, her breath on my neck, sending goosebumps.

Before I could respond, she positioned herself for access, her fangs gleaming in the dim light. "Close your eyes," she whispered, her voice husky.

I obeyed, feeling a rush of sensations as her fangs pierced my skin. Her lips wrapped around the wound, sucking gently.

Later, she finished, licked the wound, and hugged me before bidding goodbye, leaving me breathless.

Flashback end:

Now, I read the "Soul Mate" book, devouring the pages. Vampires have a special sensing power when meeting their mate, feeling an undeniable burning inside. Master felt this, didn't she? Their mate's blood is the sweetest, and they can get sick without it.

I recalled the night Master was ill and controlled herself from biting me. Did she want to die? Was she sacrificing her own needs for me?

Vampires find their mates at different times, with stronger sensing powers during eclipses. That explained the gathering that night, and Master's intensity.

I turned the page, reading about claiming mates during full moons. Both mates share the same feeling then, a deep connection that can't be denied.

I wondered about the purpose of this tradition, and what it meant for Master and me. Feeling sleepy, I closed the book and decided to rest, knowing I had classes tomorrow.

As I drifted off, I couldn't shake the feeling that Master's absence left a void in my heart.
