Freen's POV
I'm in the woods, searching for my mate. Becky is stubborn to have done something like this—running away from me. Did she really think she could get away?
I ordered everyone to search every corner of the property. No one saw her leaving through the main gate, and the CCTV showed no sign of her either. That could only mean one thing: she took the woods.
I was shocked when Mrs. Armstrong told me. She was crying, begging me to find her granddaughter, saying Becky was asleep when they finished preparing her new room, but now she's nowhere to be found.
Even without her plea, I wouldn't let Becky escape. She's my mate—mine.
I thought she might accept her destiny with me, but apparently, she isn't ready to. Instead, she ran away. I know she can't have gone too far in the woods; it's pitch dark. Part of me is furious, but part of me worries. What if she encounters a vampire like that one at the party? I swear, if anyone touches her, I'll—
My phone buzzes, interrupting my thoughts. It's a message from my brother, Edward, who was returning home with his wife today. She was excited to meet my mate, but now my mate is missing.
The message simply says, "You should take better care of your mate, sis."
I call him immediately, frustration spilling over.
"What does that mean, Edward? My mate is missing! Don't mess with me right now!" I snap.
"She's with me," he replies calmly. "Head home, sis; we're almost there."
Relief floods through me. Knowing Becky is safe with my brother, I race home. Edward's car is parked out front, and he and Nam step out to greet me.
"Long time no see," Edward says, giving me a teasing smile. "Congratulations—you have a naughty mate on your hands!"
"Thanks," I mutter. "But let me have her first. You two go on inside and wait for me in the living room."
Edward gestures toward the back seat, where Becky is sleeping peacefully. I carefully carry her upstairs to the new room we prepared, gently tucking her in. This time, though, I lock the door.
I can't risk her running away from me again.
Downstairs, Nam's smile is warm but playful. "I had no idea she was your mate, Freen! Edward only told me when he called you."
I shake my head. "I didn't expect her to bolt like that."
"You're lucky we found her," Nam says, raising an eyebrow. "What if someone else had?"
Edward adds, "If I hadn't picked up her scent, I wouldn't have stopped. You know what you have to do now, sis, don't you?"
He's right. To solidify our bond, I should claim her, take her blood, and complete our connection. It would strengthen the mate bond, especially if we consummate it. But she's so young. I wanted to wait, to give her time...
Edward claps a hand on my shoulder. "Don't wait too long, or you might lose her."
I nod, and we move on to more joyful topics. I congratulate them on their first baby—Nam's expecting, and I can tell they're both thrilled. After catching up, they leave to prepare for her checkup tomorrow.
Now, I need to deal with my runaway mate.
As I walk upstairs, I hear the door handle of her room turning. She's awake, trying to get out.
I open the door and see the surprise in her eyes. She knows she's been caught.
"Did you enjoy running away, little one?" I ask, letting my anger show.
What if I hadn't found her?
