The phone rang as Victoria held it against her ear, in her other hand was the letter. The girl gulped as the ringing stopped.
"Hello?" A woman said making Victoria less nervous
"Hey mom." The girl said and she could hear the woman smile on the other side. Sarah was happy hearing her daughter's voice. "Oh hi darling."
Victoria spoke slowly not sure what to ask or even tell her mother. "How's the trip?"
Sarah gasped enthusiastically, "oh it's lovely Victoria. I should take you here some time, it's gorgeous you would love it. I wish you were here, I miss you so much."
Victoria smiled happy that her mom was having a good time. She shared her mother's longing, wanting to be far away from this place and that bully Mike.
"I miss you too." Victoria said softly, holding tighter onto the letter
"How's things in California?" Her mother asked unaware of what had been going on and Victoria wanted to keep it that way
Her mother didn't need to know that Daniel and her had been getting beaten up because he wouldn't enter the tournament. The girl took a deep breath and put on a happy voice.
"Mr. Miyagi opened up a Bonsai shop with the help of Daniel." Victoria answered and her mother hummed. "Well isn't that nice, good for Mr. Miyagi. Darling, have you heard back from that college? I'm sure the letter should be here by now."
Victoria nodded before realizing that her mother couldn't see her. "Yes, I've got the letter." She responded and Sarah smiled again
"What does it say?" The woman was curious about her daughter wanting to know if Victoria had gotten in
Victoria opened the letter again starting at the words that congratulated her and welcomed her into Boston University.
"I got accepted." Victoria gulped and said, she should've been happy but with everything that had been going on. The girl just wasn't able to be happy
Sarah gasped and answered excitedly, "that's great honey! I can't wait to be back. Did you tell Daniel? What did he have to say?"
The girl's mouth felt dry all of the sudden at that question and she could gulp as she wanted but it still felt dry. Victoria sighed and answered pushing out her words.
"I haven't told him yet, he just seems so happy right now I don't want to ruin that." Victoria sighed knowing that she wouldn't be able to keep this from Daniel forever but she didn't want to tell him just yet
Sarah nodded, "well tell Daniel and Mr. Miyagi I said hi and get some rest I'm sure it's been rough these past weeks."
"Goodnight mom. I love you."
"Goodnight sweetie, I love you too."
Victoria sighed and put the phone up, quickly hiding the letter and laying back on the bed. The girl sighed finally having peace in a week.
••••
Bang! Victoria gasped at the loud noise, quickly sitting up as the door to the room opened. The girl got up, ready to fight whoever had just come in.
"It's just me." Daniel said holding up his hands
Victoria sighed and relaxed seeing Daniel standing in front of her. He giggled a bit as Victoria rubbed her face.
"God Daniel you scared me." Victoria hissed as he walked up to Victoria pulling her into a hug. "I'm sorry."
"How'd it go at the police station?" Victoria asked as she sat back down on the bed
Daniel sighed and shook his head. "Not well."
Victoria clicked her tongue as Daniel continued talking.
"I had the tournament application as I walked into the police station. As I walked in, they all started laughing at me and then finally the sergeant told me 'son, well look into it' but I'm sure they won't."
Daniel sighed as he sat down by Victoria, he was mad and all he wanted was for Mr. Miyagi and Victoria to be safe. Victoria reached her hand out and placed it on Daniel's shoulder.
"I'm sorry Daniel." She replied somberly. "Let's just hope that they won't come back."
"I'm not mad about that, I'm pissed that they took the trees. That was Mr. Miyagi's dream and now it's gone." Daniel hissed and Victoria nodded, it sucked
She was hoping that when she left Daniel could focus on the Bonsai store but now it seemed even like her plan b was failing.
"Yeah, I know but it's not like we have a secret Bonsai we could sell. We'll just have to find another way." Daniel's ears perked up at Victoria's words
She gave him an idea, a smile covered his face as he looked over at Victoria. The girl let out an 'uh oh' as she saw Daniel's face knowing that what ever he was thinking wasn't a good idea.
"I have an idea." He quickly said
"Whatever it is, Daniel no." Victoria rebutted
"Just hear me out." Daniel continued on with his plan. "You remember the Bonsai tree Mr. Miyagi showed us right?"
"Yeah?" Victoria answered but sounded like she was asking a question, unsure of what Daniel was trying to get at.
"Mr. Miyagi said that it's worth millions of dollars so-" Daniel wasn't able to finish his sentence as Victoria looked over at him. "Daniel no. What are you going to say when he asks about the money."
"It's millions of dollars Victoria and it's for Mr. Miyagi. I'd get it if it was me but it's for Mr. Miyagi, we take that Bonsai and we'd have enough money for the shop and anything else we wanted."
Victoria sighed knowing that Daniel was right, that tree had to cost a lot of money because it was an original but if Miyagi put it in such a hard place. It seemed like Miyagi wanted no one to touch it.
"It's the middle of the night Daniel, and after what happened today. I'd say let's go to bed and talk in the morning maybe we'll get a better idea."
Daniel gulped, getting a little annoyed. Victoria was supposed to be on his side especially when it came to helping Mr. Miyagi. Looking up at Victoria, he saw that this was more for her as she looked tired and exhausted. Daniel just nodded, "yeah, I'll think about it."
"Goodnight." Victoria said smiling
"Goodnight." Daniel stood up and watched as Victoria crawled under the covers, as he crawled into his own bed
Victoria fell asleep quickly but Daniel laid there in his makeshift bed. He couldn't stop thinking about that Bonsai and he still thought it was a god idea.
