My heart races as I feel her warmth embrace mine. My body heats up, craving more, but then I remember her situation. Gently, I push her away and break the kiss, our lips lingering close while our breath mingle together in the air.

"That's enough, you need to heal," I remind her. I step aside and try to continue making the food that I've left on the counter. Mallory opens her mouth to say something, but catches the look on my face and stops. She sighs in resignation and leans back against the table.

"Great, stuck here for four days and I'm not even getting laid." They groan in exasperation and I can feel the vein on my forehead pulsing.

"Oh, stop whining like that," I snap. "You'll live without getting coochie for four days."

Mallory gives me a cheeky grin, obviously not taking my words too seriously. I suppress a smile and return to cooking. After a few minutes of silence, I finally break it.

"How about we watch a movie? That ought to act as temporary distraction."

"A movie..?" she replies but I can't decipher her expression. I stare at her, gesturing to her bandaged waist and bruised eye.

"Yeah, we can watch a movie and relax a bit. After what happened to you, I'm sure you'll need it."

"You know what I need?" she sneers. "A proper distraction."

"You're not getting in my fucking pants Mallory." I glare at her unfazed. I genuinely feel like a mother telling their child no.

Mallory groans and rolls her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she reluctantly agrees and follows me to the living room. I grab a few pillows for us to share while we lay on my couch and I skim through the Netflix library.

"What should we watch?" I ask, resting my head on the cushions. Mallory shrugs her shoulders.

"Surprise me," she says before taking a deep breath and letting it out in a sigh of exhaustion or annoyance, I can't tell. With one last glance at her bruised face, I grab the remote and click play.

The movie starts, and both of us lay there in silence. A comfortable kind of silence that only exists between two people who understand each other. As the film progresses, I look to Mallory and can't help but smile at the sight of her eyes transfixed on the screen. I gaze into her eyes and see something different there, perhaps the lingering pain. But they seem to be filled with more emotion than before, an intensity that I've never seen before. Eventually, the credits start to roll, and I'm drawn out of my thoughts. Mallory turns towards me with a look of calm on her face.

"So this is what you mundane people do?" She asks and I sigh.

"Not only that obviously but it's an option yes." I explain adjusting the blanket over my lap. Mallory's expression softens as she shifts her gaze and notices me trying to adjust the blanket. She slowly moves her arms and helps out adjusting it. I can't help but feel my heart swell at her gesture. I smile widely and thank her, she merely nods in response, something akin to a smirk on her lips. We stay still for a few moments until Mallory finally speaks up.

"It was...fine." She murmurs slowly, almost like they're the first words she's uttered.

"What?"

"The movie." she adds with a fake cough. I can't help but chuckle, maybe Mallory wasn't as uninterested in this whole idea as I first thought.

"It was fine? Just fine? That's what you've got to say about it? Come on, be honest! You must have liked something!" I tease her gently.

Mallory rolls her eyes. "Don't push it Sparky." She says in a dry tone. But the faint hint of a smirk on her lips gave away that she was beginning to enjoy herself more than she expected or wanted to admit.

"Uhm, I wanted to apologize for well.." I sigh. "Violating your car and throwing your whole expensive whiskey collection at your head." I murmur and smile awkwardly. Mallory nods, not meeting my eyes.

"I don't know, I like your fierce behavior. Might even be a turn on for me." she grins making my eye twitch.

"But It's fine, I'll just buy new ones." She pauses before looking up at me. "But I don't think it will be happening again anytime soon, right Sparky?"

I let out an awkward giggle and nod in agreement. "It won't be as long as you don't act like a jerk," I reply sassily. Mallory laughs, shaking her head before leaning in and giving me a hug.

"Thanks for tonight," She says softly, surprising me with the gesture. "It was..not that torturous as I expected."

"You're welcome," I say as I cautiously return the soft embrace to make sure I don't hurt her wounds.

"Alright, I'll go grab us some snacks!" I suggest, getting up and throwing the blanket over Mallory's head like a mannequin. She slowly pulls off the blanket with a blank stare towards me as I get to the kitchen. I open the cupboards and grab a couple of bags of chips, candy and other treats. I waddle towards the living room when suddenly, my feet get tangled in the carpet and I go flying face-first into the floor.

I'm like a toy being thrown across the room, only much less graceful. I grumble and moan, but I'm taken aback when an unexpected sound calls my attention. Mallory's laugh. My gaze shifts upward to find her eyes glimmering with genuine amusement.

"Oh, I'm glad you find it so funny," I say, feeling embarrassed while my heart races in my ribcage and my cheeks flush. She only laughs harder at my misfortune in total glee.

"I mean—" She says, with a hint of mischief in her voice. "It's just been a while since I've seen someone make such an entertaining show to impress me."

"Shut up Grandma." I hiss back and let out a chuckle. I hate to admit it, but the sound of her laughter fills me with longing. I despise myself for it, yet here I am, head over heels in love with her. Despite knowing that she's nowhere near feeling the same, at least not the same intensity.

Mallory smiles. "Well, touché I deserved that," she murmurs softly. She extends a hand as she sat on the couch to help me up, and I take it without hesitation. We sit there for a moment, hands intertwined in the night breeze flowing through the living room window as if we're connected by electricity. Mallory looks into my eyes and I look at hers feeling myself drown into them.

I clear my throat and place the snacks on the living room table before I take my seat back on the couch.

"Right..." I murmur and look at Mallory.

She suddenly speaks up, catching my attention. "You know," she says. "Maybe I don't dislike these mundane activities as much as I thought." She looks at me with her eyes softened slightly.

Gods and his disciples, settle my racing heart before I explode!

I take a deep breath before replying, my throat turning dry from anticipation. "It can be nice change of pace," I manage to say. Mallory smiles and nods her head. The room suddenly becomes silent again, the only thing heard is our synchronised breathing as we sit in comfortable silence. Mallory reaches out her hand towards mine and I take a sharp breath.

"Sparky—"

"Ha! What other movie do you want to watch!?" I interrupt her anxiously, quickly rushing over to grab the remote and staring intently at the TV in front of us, my cheeks flushing like a schoolgirl's while praying she won't see it.

Oh boy, this is going to be a long couple days..
