Crossroad Demons: How to Summon Them

When it comes to demonology, witchcraft, and voodoo activities, crossroads are crucial. Crossroads are seen to be the gateways to summoning a devil, negotiating with the devil, and attracting the devil's attention.

Crossroads may symbolize a spot "between the worlds" in ancient tradition, and as such, a place where supernatural spirits might be contacted and paranormal phenomena can occur. It can indicate liminality, a place that is literally "neither here nor there," "betwixt and between," and so represents a location where two realms meet. Crossroad Demons are demons tasked with "buying" souls for Hell through deals with humans. These deals consist of the demon granting the human's wish in exchange for ownership over that person's soul, resulting in the person dying and going to Hell to be transformed into a demon upon death. Crossroad demons are named as such because they, in particular, can be summoned at crossroads by humans seeking to make deals.

In Greek mythology, crossroads were associated with Hecate, with shrines and ceremonies for both taking place there. Hecate is the Goddess of Witchcraft and her followers prayed for her at crossroads at each new moon, and one of her most common titles was 'goddess of the crossroads.' Each of the three heads or bodies is frequently associated with one of three crossing highways in her later three-fold representations.

In Western folk mythology, a crossroads can be used to summon a demon or devil in order to make a deal. This legend can be seen in many stories. For example, the 1587 Historia Von D. Johann Fausten, describes the character Faust inscribing magic circles at a crossroads in order to summon the devil.

In the 1885 historical essay Transylvanian Superstitions, Emily Gerard describes how crossroads were often avoided as a matter of course, and describes a Romanian belief that a demon could be summoned at a crossroad by drawing a magic circle, offering copper coin as payment, and reciting an incantation.

In conjure, root work, and hoodoo, a form of African magical spirituality practiced by African, the crossroads in Hoodoo originates from the Kongo cosmogram in Central Africa. It represents the rising and setting of the sun, and the human life cycle of death and rebirth. The centre of the crossroads is where the communication with spirits take place.

In Hoodoo, there has been a practice of selling your soul to the devil at the crossroads in order to gain expertise in different physical and body talents, such as playing a musical instrument, throwing dice, or dancing, which is thought to be hoodoo in origin. It is believed that one may attend upon a crossroads a certain number of times, either at midnight or just before dawn, and one will meet a "black man," whom some call the Devil, who will bestow upon one the desired skills.

In May 1911, Robert Leroy Johnson was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. He was a lousy musician who struggled to make a name for himself. He was never able to conjure up a tune in his guitar that was suitable for the new American music trends, no matter how hard he tried. Finally, with a heavy heart, he made the decision to leave town and never return.

Robert, a young man with a ten-dollar money in his pocket and a guitar slung over his back, left his town on a cloudy night. He was so depressed about his condition that he didn't realise he'd come to a fork in the road. He knelt on the ground and yelled out in anguish, pleading for assistance. From the gates of hell, Lucifer arose and struck a deal with Robert in exchange for his soul. After a year, Robert returned to Mississippi and became the most recognized musician of his generation. The cause of Robert's death is still a mystery to Mississippi residents.

A crossroads demon is typically summoned by burying a container of ritual items, including a photograph of the summoner, graveyard dirt, a black cat bone, and yarrow at the centre of a crossroads.

The ritual itself must be performed at an actual crossroads and not the intersection on a city street. You must have safeguards around you or installed. Be prepared to get the shit kicked out of you because demons are not known for their sparkling personalities. Demon often manifest accordingly to the shape and person you love. A handsome young man or a beautiful lady perhaps!

Don't try this at your nearest Crossroad or intersection. You won't be able to save yourself if a real demon pops his head out of the Earth!
