Chapter 8 | Beach With The Guys

Jenn.

Knock knock.

Jake! He is finally here! I run down the stairs with my sandals on. Almost tripping on the last step.

"Hey!" He hugged me after i opened the door.

Before we let go he kissed me.

"I have kinda a stupid question" i say as we start driving to the beach.

"I bet it isnt, shoot" he smiles at me then back at the road.

"Well...like even though we kissed. Were like a thing now right? Or am i crazy and moving into things-" i start talking fast.

"What do you want?" He asked.

That was a good question. I mean i guess we are, friends dont just kiss like that.

"I mean it seems like it"

Did I say I wanted us to be a thing...well not really because i didn't know.

"Than i guess we are" he grinned.

He really liked me, I could tell. For some reason it made me feel bad. Like i was lying to him. I mean im not but i feel like it.

"JENN!" 2 guys run up and hug me.

"MATT! SHAWN!" We act like its been years even though its been a day.

"This is Jake!" I introduce him.

"Hey man its good to meet you" Shawn says.

"Same" Jake says back.

We set up our little area. I try to open up the umbrella but it was stuck like glue.

"Uh guys i need help" i struggle.

"I got it" Jake and Shawn say at the same time.

"Uh its ok man you can" Jake offers.

Shawn nods and walks over to me. He takes the umbrella and opens it up without a problem.

"I loosened it" i cross my arms.

"Whatever makes you happy" he grins.

Shawn stabs the umbrella into the sand shading up our towels and bags. I sit on my towel with Matt.

"Im gonna go swim" Jake says.

"Same" Shawn replies.

Me and Matt nod and they run off. I grab a water bottle and chug half of it down. I was dying in this sun. I replied sunscreen just to make sure i don't burn to a crisp.

"Jake seems nice" Matt breaks the silence.

"Im glad you like him so far" i smile after finishing my water bottle.

"Im still worried"

I nod, "I get it"

It is my boyfriend, i guess will say, and my best friend / crush hanging out.

"Im surprised he came" Matt chuckles.

"Same. Guess he trust me" i smile.

"Or he is keeping an eye on Shawn" he points out.

"Think what you will"

I put on my earbuds and played music. I lied down on my towel and closed my eyes.

"Seriously your just gonna tan?" Matt laughs.

I take out my earbuds.

"Whats wrong with that?" I ask.

"Its boring!"

Matt always had to be doing SOMETHING. He cant just be in his room laying on the computer or tanning. If he is at the beach he acts like its the last time he can be here. Its nice...sometimes.

"Fine" i sit back up.

He pulls up and drags me to the water. He takes the first step in. I go in after.

"ITS FREEZING!" I yell.

"You'll get used to it. Come on i see the guys" he says.

We walked over to Shawn and Jake where they were throwing a floating football.

"Hey you wanna try Jenn?" Shawn asked.

I never have been good with throwing footballs. Even these kid ones.

"Ok but im horrible" i say.

Jake throws the football to Shawn and gives it to me. We switch spots and I throw it....on the land, almost hitting a guy, and right by a little boy.

"Sorry!!" I get embarrassed.

Jake goes and runs for the football and comes back in lightning speed.

"Here let me help you" Shawn offers.

He goes behind me and places the football in my right hand. Then he slowly guides me how to spin it. He holds my hands as a throw it perfectly to Jake.

"You did it!" Matt clapped.

"Thanks!" I look at Shawn.

"No problem" he smiles.

After we played some more we headed back to our towels. Me and Shawn went to go get smoothies for all of us.

"Jake seems cool" Shawn says after we order.

"Im glad you like him" i smile.

"Its just...never mind" he said.

"No tell me" i wanted to know.

"I dont think your gonna last honestly. It seems like one of those cute couples than end fine..or not fine" he said honestly.

"Well till that day comes ill enjoy the time i have with him" i smile and grab me and Jake's drinks.

Shawn grabbed his and Matts. We headed back and gave them there drinks. Jake pulled me close to him looking at Shawn and Matt.

"So Jake where did you move from?" Matt asked.

"Hawaii" Jake answered.

"Thats funny our friends are there right now" Matt gives out a little laugh.

I noticed that everyone was just quiet on their phones and drinking their smoothies. Why is Jake so boring around them? Doesn't he want to make a good impression?
