"Us?! What do you mean us?!" She said loudly.
"No but it makes sense, we are the mind creation, whatever is doing this is making us look like we are foolish but we are the creation of this whole game, I mean look at us we have the book, the book whatever this thing is scared of," I said louder as I had an axe thrown to the side of my right ear from the second floor as I saw the figure standing there.
Ellie ducks as she realised what I was doing "Do you have another plan?" She looked at me.
"Nope," I said with a nervous chuckle.
"Maybe I can suggest one," she said.
"Please do share," I spoke up.
"Run!" Ellie sprints ahead to the exit doors it's locked, I pulled her back as I started to kick at the door, so I pulled out my pistol and shot at the door handle then kicked the door open fully. I grabbed Ellie bringing her in front of me as we started to run.
"Shit," I said as I knew I forgot something.
"What?!" Ellie shouted.
"The book is in there, fuck!" I said as I pushed Ellie to keep on running as I ran back to the library the figure was getting closer to the book which was left on the table, I shot the fingertips of the figure before its hand got to the table, and the figure jolted back, I ran towards the book and grabbed it back.
As the figure slammed my body into the bookshelf, I struggled to get out of its grip, I put my hands on its neck to push it back, I grunted as I felt a sharp feeling inserted into my left leg, to saw a knife sticking out of it, I looked at the figure and moved one of my hands down to my leg to pull out of the knife as I gripped onto the knife and stabbed it into the figures side repeatedly.
The figure suddenly let go of me as it started to sprint away, I dropped the knife and held the wound on my leg as I grunted slipping against the bookshelf onto the floor, I held pressure on my leg as drops of sweat fell down my face, Ellie sprinted back in as she grabbed the book and ran over to me "Let me call for an ambulance," she said.
"No," I said as I slowly got off the floor and grunted louder as I rubbed my hands over my white shirt "I'm fine, we need to go somewhere safe and start to do homework on that book," I said as I limped to the door.
She followed me "But you're bleeding," she expressed worriedly.
"Ellie, it's fine. It's a cut it's not deep, I'll get a first aid kit in town but we need to go somewhere and I know where," I said as we got into my car.
After an hour of driving I parked in the forest where I used my phone to turn on the flashlight "Just watch your step," I said to Ellie.
I grabbed her arm and brought her in front of me as I walked to the basement door "Hold this for me," I handed her my phone and she nodded putting the light onto the lock.
I used the tiny key I had around my neck as I unlocked the door and helped her climb down as I climbed down too, I locked the doors from inside as the place was my secret cover of where I could work without any distractions, the walls was filled of pictures of each student that went missing, the red thread connecting to the wall to the pictures, I had multi-coloured pins on the walls and many messy writings on the walls.
This place was my workplace, where I could do my deepest work in peace, Ellie placed the book on the table as I pinned up the pictures of Vae's father and the tour guide on the wall connecting the thread to the black figure picture.
"This is impressive," Ellie said as she was intrigued by more ongoing work.
I sat down on the seat and tore my jeans so I could tend to my wound, I leaned my head back and groaned in agony as I sprayed antiseptic spray into the wound before I placed a bandaid on the wound.
Then I got up and I poured us a hot coffee as I placed them on the table, she tore out a page from the book and placed it on the wall "Do you know the other student's names?" She asked.
I nodded "Kevin Smith went missing in 2018, the first student to go missing. Delilah May went missing in 2019. Lily Wilkinson went missing in 2020. Darrell and Kendall Williams went missing in 2021 and 2022. Then Vae Morgan went missing 2023 all on Halloween night and vanished out of thin air," I said as I sipped my black coffee and leaned against the wall.
"We just need to know what every student had in common, I mean why those students?" She said as she watched the pictures intently.
I watched her then back at the book "What did all of them have in common in the biggest clue of them all," I expressed as I looked at everything.
