09 | Searching

We sat in the basement which felt like hours on end, we were reading the book but nothing came to mind. I thought the book would help us but it didn't, I don't know how Vae thought this book was good, I've read through it for hours but still nothing, it felt strange to me. Nothing was catching my eye, I was stuck once again.

I held my fingers on my temples massaging my head as I looked through the pages again, as it caught my eye, I read through the bottom paragraph to something that was so desperately needed.

"Searching for something so decadent can lead to cries and sorrows,".

I kept rereading it over tore the page out and handed it to Ellie "What do you think of this?" I looked at her and scratched my chin.

"Searching for something so decadent can lead to cries and sorrow," she read out loud as she shook her head "I don't know, do you think one of the missing students did it? They wrote it to warn whoever read it next?" She expressed.

"You're right, maybe Vae saw this and she led into the cries and sorrow, we need to start searching for her, or I think this will be the last clue before..." I stopped myself as Ellie knew what I was going to finish too.

"We will search tonight," she suggested, I nodded.

Hours later, it was 9 pm and we met up in town I handed her a flashlight "Right we are going to split up in town," I said as I stomped my cigarette out.

"No no, we are not splitting up. Have you not watched Scooby Doo? It's always the scared ones aka Shaggy and Scooby who bump into the monster and right now I'm feeling vulnerable so we are sticking together," Ellie said as she stared into my soul.

"Fine, but use your eyes to look around then," I rolled my eyes, as I started to walk away "Kids with their stupid imagination," I muttered to myself, whilst I continued to walk.

Ellie caught up to me as we walked to Nova High library, I saw there was a lock on the doors so I rolled my eyes took out my pistol and shot at the lock before kicking the door down "Wow you would be a great burglar," Ellie said with a snicker as I turned to face her.

"Sorry," she said as she tried not to laugh.

I pushed the doors open and turned on my flashlight as I looked around the library I felt Ellie's breath on my neck "You can split up in here, if the doors were locked I honestly doubt the killer would be in here," I said as I pushed her down another isle to look around.

"I'm going to die, I'm going to die..." I could hear Ellie through the isles as I rolled my eyes "Most likely they would send you back here if you were taken!" I raised my voice.

"I am NOT annoying, I'm stating facts!" She said louder as I rolled my eyes.

"Facts my ass," I said as I continued to look around the building, I walked over to the paintings on the wall, and looked at all 7 paintings "Who are they?" Ellie asked as she walked over to stand next to me.

"Different principles of the school," I replied as I put my flashlight on all of them.

"Yo that one looks ugly," she said moving the flashlight over the painting nonstop as a hand reached through and grabbed Ellie and pulled her to the wall as she screamed. I grabbed her arm and I pulled her back towards me as the figure came out of the painting holding a knife.

I pushed Ellie in front of me as we started to run towards the exit of the library "You should've known not to bully paintings, now you've upset it!" I said sarcastically as we ran out of the library and out of the school to my car as we got in, I drove us back into town.

"Why is that thing obsessed with us?!" Ellie said as she was catching her breath.

"Because you just freaking bullied it," I exhaled as I kept driving.

We sat in silence as I rubbed my brow and continued to drive on the highway, it was now 11 pm and I kept rubbing my brow as I kept driving as well, Ellie started to press buttons on the radio as a song started to play 'The Calling' by The Killers, I exhaled as I turned it up slightly so it wasn't an awkward silence.

I glanced over to see Ellie reading the book "I feel like we are getting close," Ellie said.

"You think so? Because I don't think we are. We keep running into dead ends then why we do get something it gets taken away from us like it was nothing," I scratched my chin as I kept driving.

"I think so, come on think. That figure has been after us since day one? Why?! Because it knows that we will figure this mystery out and now that we are finding clues and we have this book it's threatened by our actions that's why it keeps chasing us away, something is in that library that the figure doesn't want us in, we need to get into that library," she said as I listened to her words and nodded.

"Tomorrow we will go in during the last period and see what we can find," I replied.

"We are searching for Vae and we aren't giving up, Vae is alive. I can feel it, she wouldn't give in to her death so lightly, she's stronger than you think," Ellie said as she read through that book.

"She's coming home, I promise that," I said.
