The two had been dating for a couple months and Hanji felt as if she was really starting to see Levi's personality come out. When she had first met him he was always cold and grumpy. Hanji knew he was in a lot of pain back then. He'd still have an occasional panic attack, sleepless night, or get triggered by certain sounds, but he was doing much better. She noticed that he would talk to her more about things that he normally wouldn't share and he would make sassy jokes a lot more. She loved who he was becoming. Hanji assumed he was this person before the incident. She remembered Connie saying that he hasn't been the same after the death of his squad and Hanji felt like she was finally getting to see the real Levi appear. She was so proud of his progress.

"Are you still awake?" She mumbled into his chest.

"Mhm" He answered as his fingers delicately combed through her hair.

Hanji always felt bad for sleeping when Levi's insomnia wouldn't let him. "It's not fair." She said tiredly.

"What's not fair?" He asked, still playing with her dark locks.

"That I can sleep when you can't." She grumbled. "If you can't sleep then neither will I!" She said sounding determined.

Levi rolled his eyes, "That's not healthy, go to bed."

"Pshhh sleep is for the weak..." Her voice got quieter and quieter until Levi heard soft snores escape her lips.

He smiled down at her. What did I do to deserve you? If he had gone through with his plan, he would have been dead almost a year ago. Almost a year Levi sighed. In just a few short weeks it would be one year since their deaths. Maybe that's why I can't seem to sleep that much he reasoned. As much as he hated it, he still felt guilty. Guilty for breathing. If they were alive what would they be doing? Would Petra be visiting her dad for the holidays? Would Gunther be making fun of Olou for biting his tongue yet again? Levi's heart ached. He'd never know. And they'd never know how much he missed them.

He smiled at the sleeping girl on his chest and a single tear slipped out of the corner of his eye.

RING

RING

Levi shot up and frantically looked around. An alarm was blaring and he smelled smoke. The hallway. He shook his head. Where was Hanji?!

"Hanji?!" He stood up and ran towards the kitchen.

"Oops! Sorry did I wake you?" Hanji frowned as she waived a rag in front of the fire alarm trying to get it to stop going off.

"Fucking hell." Levi groaned as he covered his ears.

"Language!" Hanji yelled as she kept waiving the rag around.

"Fucking heck." Levi corrected sarcastically.

Hanji burst into a fit of laughter. The alarm finally stopped after Levi opened the windows.

"What are you doing?" He accused the crazy girl.

Hanji gave him puppy eyes. "I know you didn't sleep a lot so I thought I'd make breakfast." She pouted.

Levi looked over her shoulder to see blackened pancakes sitting in a lopsided pile.

"I didn't mean to wake you.." She said sadly.

"It's fine Four-eyes." He consoled her by patting her head.

Hanji's face lit up with a smile. "Do you want to meet my mom?"
