Chapter 14: Save Me

The lack of sleep was catching up to Levi. He was irritable to the point where even the smallest things made him want to scream. He felt crazy. He had lost his friends and pushed the only person who saw and loved him for him away. What is wrong with me? He pulled on his hair. Why do I always push everyone away?! He was so angry. Angry at himself. Angry that he made Hanji cry, angry that he let his squad die, angry that he kept everything from Hanji.

Levi...I thought we'd be together. I loved you, did you kill me so you could be with her? Levi looked up from his place on the kitchen floor. Petra stared at him. She's not real, she's not real.

You killed us so you could survive... you left us to die!

Levi burried his head in his arms, "N-no Gunther, it's not like that!"

Selfish bastard Oluo spat.

"It's not like that!" Levi yelled, "I'd do anything to change what happened!" He cried. Why won't they just believe me?! Levi's heart was pounding out of his chest. He was trembling. I can't breathe. Their voices echoed in his head. He couldn't shut them out. It was too loud.

"H-hanji!" He cried. Hanji help me.

Hanji was enjoying her weekend with Mikasa and her friends. Eren and Mikasa had been dating for a while now and Eren decided to invite everyone over to his parents house. Sasha and Connie were playing Super Smash Bros and screaming at the TV. Armin was busy talking to Christa about the ocean. She was staring at him with dreamy eyes. Jean and Eren were arm wresting and Hanji and Mikasa were cheering them on.

"Go Eren!" They cheered.

Hanji felt her phone buzz in her pocket. She pulled it out and held it to her ear. "Hello?" She asked, covering her other ear with her hand.

"H-hanji-" Levi panted.

"Levi?? What's wrong?" Hanji was surprised. He didn't sound good.

She pressed the phone closer to her ear. She only heard shallow breathing. "P-please." He begged.

"I'm coming, just hold on." She said seriously trying to remain calm for him. She put her phone down but didn't hang up. She ran towards the door. She remembered what her mom had said. They will come to you when they are ready. Levi needed her, this was it.

"Hanji?" Mikasa called.

"It's Levi!" She yelled as an explanation as she left the house. She jumped in her car and put the call on speaker phone.

"Levi can you hear me?" She asked as she backed out of the driveway.

"Y-yes." He choked.

"Try to breathe, just like last time remember?"

"C-can't, I c-can't." He panicked. His cries became muffled like he was holding his mouth or hiding his face in his hands like he always did.

"I'm almost there, I love you Levi."

Hanji swerved into the apartment parking lot. She jumped out of her car and raced up the stairs, phone still in hand. "I'm almost there." She panted. She ran down the hallway until she was at his door. She twisted the handle. Locked. "Levi, I'm here." She called. "I need you to open the door."

Levi sat in the kitchen shaking his head. The voices were so loud he felt like he couldn't hear. Yelling. Screaming. Crying. Levi didn't even know where he was he was so lost in his mind.

Hanji knocked louder. "I'm right here, Levi." She thought furiously. How can I get in? Then she remembered. She reached to the back of her head and pulled a bobbie pin from her hair. She bent it open and tried to pick the lock. There was a click. Yes! She pulled the pin from the lock only to realize it had snapped. "Dammit." She knew she'd have to get Levi to open it from the inside. She held the phone closer to her mouth. "I just need you to unlock the door." She pleaded. "Can you hear me?" She asked when she didn't get a response.
