The walk is gruelling, the coat has come off and is in my bag within minutes. Despite the sun being blocked by the trees, the heat still gets to me. My feet ache, even though i've slept, the walking has restarted the pain again.

Theo's practically run out of jokes by now. He told some earlier but he's been silent for the past 15 minutes. We've gone on tangent about other conversations but now reached an end. We must have been walking for about 2 hours straight.

"Amara."

"Theodore."

"I hope you don't mind me asking, what's going on with you and Mattheo?"

Initially i don't answer, i wait for him to say something else.

"Now i know about the mark, i understand why you broke things off with him. He was angry when you did, because you didn't give him a specific reason."

"I didn't want him to know."

"He was devastated."

"So was I." I reply quietly.

"Pansy said something the other day, about shouting."

"He brought the topic back up again."

"Right. If you'd rather we didn't talk-"

"Yeah that would be preferred." I cut him off, nodding while keeping my eyes on the ground in front of me.

After another long half an hour, i begin to hear things. They are odd sounds, they get slightly louder then retreat, and then disappear. Theo must pick up on it too, because he is looking ahead, face screwed up slightly while listening.

There it was again.

"Oh my god." I almost stop walking.

"What?"

"Cars."

We break out into a run, heading in the direction of the cars. I almost hold my breath until we get there. The trees stop, and we reach the edge of a road.

"Fucking hell finally." Theo exclaims, running his hands through his hair.

It felt like that forest was never going to end.

"Now what?"

"We keep walking?" I reply hesitantly, turning to face each direction, and seeing no sign of life. "Orr.."

"Or what?"

______

Within minutes we are fully set up. I'm laying in the road, well the side of the road. Theo is crouched over me, waiting. None of know us how to drive a car, and we only learnt how to drive bikes about a week ago. The only thing i'm good at is flying a broomstick.

Before long, our first victim begins to approach. We see the car over the horizon, making its way down the road. Theo waits for it to get closer, before standing up from the crouching position. "Remember to roll if they don't stop." Then he walks ahead slightly, waving his arms above his head frantically.

Still heading towards us, the car shows no signs of slowing down. "MOVE." Theo yells, stepping off the side of the road. I roll to the side, onto the grass as the car continues past.

"What a dick." Theo scoffs, kicking the dandelions on the floor.

We try again. And again. And the third car doesn't stop.

"Oh my fucking god." I shout at that one. "I'm dying in the road for fucks  sake."

Another car passes. Then the fifth one approaches. It's differnt, the car seems to be slower overall. Theo takes notice and throws himself into the road, throwing him arms above his head in a panic. The car notices almost immediately, slowing down as it reaches us. The window rolls down and Theo begins to act.

"Please help." He begs, "My sister, there's something wrong she collapsed and i can't carry her anymore."

I hear a man and woman talk to him, too quiet to hear what they are saying. I wait with anticipation, desperate. It takes a minute before a door opens and an old lady appears at my side.

Theo's hands slip under me, lifting my limp body from the floor.

"Put her in the back and we'll drive you into the hospital." The old lady says as i'm being carried.  She pulls open the door and Theo props me along the far seats, then sitting in beside me and slamming the door.

"Thankyou." Theo sighs.

I keep my eyes shut, staying in characters as we drive off, saving my laughter for later.

About 5 minutes in, they begin to talk quietly. I can't make out what they are saying, but there's things like "safe" and "stop". I can feel something is wrong. Opening my eye just a crack, i see the lady digging in the door pocket for something, then pulling out a folded sheet of paper. I watch her in shock as she unfolds it, revealing the WANTED poster with both mine and Theo's face on it.

"I-"

"Not a word." Theo says calmly, his wand at her neck. "Just drive us into the next town, that's all we want, we don't want to hurt you, or anything like that. We just want a ride."

"You are one of them?"

"No." I reply.

"But you, have a wand."

"We are the good side." Theo says. It's the first time we have ever actually referred to ourselves on the good side. "Please."

"I have half a mind to turn you in." The man scoffs.

"We don't want to hurt you but we will if we need to." I reply calmly, Theo digs the wand deeper into her neck. "Please just drive us there."

The man doesn't respond, just drives, his gaze flickering between the road ahead and his wife.

It takes maybe half an hour, but we arrive, in a new town. It's smaller than the ones we've been to before, maybe a good thing. I jump out of the back first, after struggling to open the door. Theo does the same, then walks round to the window to say thankyou. I don't hear a reply, and the car drives away.

__________

16th May 1998

5 days later, me and Theo have officially been separated from the rest of them for —- days. I miss Pansy and Enzo to be honest. Theo is great company but after a week and half i think i'm beginning to go slightly insane. I don't miss Draco, it's nice to be away from him. And i definitely don't miss Mattheo (except i totally do.)

This is town number 4. The last one was another small one. We stayed for one night, then saw posters and had to make another run for it. We've slept in the tent for 2 nights. Then another 2 somewhere else. Now we've found another town This one is pretty huge. Our logic was that it would be harder to find us here. Hopefully we are right.

"Mara." Theo says, "It's half past 5, we need to find somewhere to stay. I'm full and i'm tired."

"Muggle food is so weird. I'd kill for a pumpkin pasty or something."

Suddenly, a group of people round the corner. They are shouting, almost running from something, right towards us.

"Amara."

"I don't know." I start walking away, trying to move out of the way of the crowd. It's not long before i spot the robed figures making their way behind the group.

"Fuck." Theo grabs my hand, pulling me towards the crowd.

"What the fuck Theo?"

"Blend in."

The impact of the group of people nearly knocks me over, and i cling to Theo's hand for my life. Feeling suffocated, i can barely see anything through the hoard. I almost feel his fingers slipping from my grasp.

"THEO." I shout.

I'm moments away from falling away from him, until a flash of white blond hair catches my eye.

"Mum?"
